Job summary

Keysight Technologies is seeking a motivated Software Engineer in Edinburgh to design and implement embedded and RF software for aerospace and defense projects. You will work with hardware, software, and test teams across sites, delivering robust, high‑performance solutions.

You will apply C/C++/C# and Python across the software stack, including real‑time systems, verification, and tooling. The role emphasizes collaboration, problem solving, and ownership in a multidisciplinary environment.

Qualifications

• 5+ years in a relevant field.
• Proficient in C, C++, C#, Python; strong software engineering fundamentals.
• Embedded or real‑time software experience.
• Hardware‑software integration and test automation experience.
• Experience with RF signals/systems and measurement concepts.
• Experience with NI TestStand or similar test automation tools.
• Degree in CS, Electronics or equivalent.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain embedded and RF software for mission‑critical systems.
• Collaborate with hardware, software, and test teams across multiple sites (Edinburgh, Loveland, Malaga).
• Debug FPGA interfaces, integrate low‑level software, and build system verification tools.
• Contribute to design reviews and document software interfaces.

Responsibilities

You are a motivated and curious Software Engineer with a background in Electronics Engineering, Computer Science, or a closely related technical discipline. You have a strong foundation in digital and RF systems, and you’re keen to apply these skills to real-world, mission‑critical aerospace and defense challenges.

You will be joining our team in Edinburgh, with strong connections to the existing Loveland site and the newly formed Malaga site.

You enjoy solving complex technical problems and learning how hardware and software interact within embedded, RF and automated test systems. Whether debugging an FPGA interface, integrating low‑level software, or developing tools to support system‑level verification, you bring a hands‑on, analytical mindset to everything you do.

You are enthusiastic about working in a multidisciplinary engineering environment, collaborating with experts in software, electronics, RF interfacing and measurements, and system architecture. You communicate clearly, ask thoughtful questions, and take ownership of your work.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated experience of 5+ years in a relevant field


• Highly proficient in at least one of (and familiar with at least two of) C, C++, C#, Python programming languages


• Awareness and/or experience of embedded or real‑time software


• Experience of hardware-software integration, test automation (specifically using NI TestStand) and system verification


• Experience of test instrumentation and associated measurements


• Experience of working with incomplete, ambiguous specifications and tenaciously working through these


• Working knowledge of RF signals and systems


• Use of Windows development environments


• Use of version control tools (specifically Git)


• Bachelors or Masters Degree in Computer Science, Electronics Engineering or equivalent
