Job summary

Keysight Technologies in Edinburgh is seeking a software engineer with a strong background in electronics and RF to contribute to mission‑critical test systems for aerospace and defense customers.

You will work on embedded software, FPGA interfaces, and tools to support system verification, collaborating with cross‑functional teams across sites and delivering high‑performance, custom test solutions.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years in a relevant field.
  • Proficient in at least one of C, C++, C#, Python; familiar with two.
  • Experience in embedded or real-time software.
  • Hardware–software integration, test automation with NI TestStand.
  • Experience with test instrumentation and measurements.
  • Ability to work with incomplete, ambiguous specifications.
  • Working knowledge of RF signals and systems.
  • Use of Windows development environments.
  • Use of Git version control.
  • Bachelors or Masters Degree in Computer Science, Electronics Engineering or equivalent.

Responsibilities

  • Join our Edinburgh team to tackle embedded, RF, and automated test system challenges.
  • Debug FPGA interfaces and integrate low‑level software for system verification.
  • Collaborate with software, electronics, RF, and measurement experts across sites.

Keysight’s ADCS team delivers tailored test and measurement solutions to leading Aerospace and Defense customers, with over 20 years of profitable growth. Operating globally, we collaborate closely with customers to design and implement custom hardware/software systems - primarily in radar, satellite, and mission‑critical domains.

Responsibilities

You are a motivated and curious Software Engineer with a background in Electronics Engineering, Computer Science, or a closely related technical discipline. You have a strong foundation in digital and RF systems, and you’re keen to apply these skills to real‑world, mission‑critical aerospace and defense challenges.

You will be joining our team in Edinburgh, with strong connections to the existing Loveland site and the newly formed Malaga site.

You enjoy solving complex technical problems and learning how hardware and software interact within embedded, RF and automated test systems. Whether debugging an FPGA interface, integrating low‑level software, or developing tools to support system‑level verification, you bring a hands‑on, analytical mindset to everything you do.

You are enthusiastic about working in a multidisciplinary engineering environment, collaborating with experts in software, electronics, RF interfacing and measurements, and system architecture. You communicate clearly, ask thoughtful questions, and take ownership of your work.

Most importantly, you are excited by the opportunity to contribute to the work our team does, while supporting customer programs delivering high‑performance custom test systems.

Qualifications
  • Demonstrated experience of 5+ years in a relevant field
  • Highly proficient in at least one of (and familiar with at least two of) C, C++, C#, Python programming languages
  • Awareness and/or experience of embedded or real‑time software
  • Experience of hardware‑software integration, test automation (specifically using NI TestStand) and system verification
  • Experience of test instrumentation and associated measurements
  • Experience of working with incomplete, ambiguous specifications and tenaciously working through these
  • Working knowledge of RF signals and systems
  • Use of Windows development environments
  • Use of version control tools (specifically Git)
  • Bachelors or Masters Degree in Computer Science, Electronics Engineering or equivalent
