Job summary

Morson Human Resources Limited in Bristol is seeking an Embedded Software Engineer to join the Defence Software Facility on-site with an option for a 4-day compressed week. You will develop mission-critical software in a Linux environment, following MISRA C++ standards and driving rigorous unit, functional and hardware-in-the-loop tests.

Join a medium-sized software team responsible for missile control software across the full SDLC and ensure deliverables meet ICDs and system requirements.

Qualifications

• Significant experience in developing and debugging real-time software with C++.
• Experience with Rhapsody UML or equivalent model-driven development tool.
• Experience in functional and integration testing, simulation and hardware testing.
• Ability to work to requirements and ICDs.

Responsibilities

Embedded Software Engineer
Location: Bristol on site (option for 4 days compressed week)

Rate £70 ph Umbrella

Duration: 6 Months

Overview of department:

Our client are a world leader in missile and missile systems, seeking a highly capable and adaptable Embedded Software Engineer to join their Development Facility in Bristol. As part of the growing dynamic Software team, you will develop the latest mission-critical defence systems. You will work as part of a medium-sized team and be empowered to work individually with little supervision.

As a Software Engineer, you will be responsible for developing critical missile control software, ensuring all deliverables align with Project System requirements and Interface Control Documents. You will be fully embedded in the complete Software Development Life Cycle. To maintain the highest levels of safety and reliability, you will develop code in accordance with Company and MISRA C++ standards and actively participate in peer code quality reviews. Given the scale and criticality of these systems, testing is paramount; you will be responsible for driving quality through rigorous unit, functional, and hardware-in-the-loop integration testing.

Responsibilities:

• Development on Linux of Embedded Real-Time software using Rhapsody & C++ in a multi-threaded Application to software requirements & ICDs.
• Writing unit/functional tests and conduct integration testing with the target hardware.
• Adhering to the agreed Project Planning and Project Quality processes.
• Use JIRA for project management and issue tracking
• The role will involve working within a lab environment running software on target hardware.

Skillset/experience required:

• Significant experience of developing and debugging Real time Software applications using C++.
• Considerable experience of Rhapsody UML or other model-driven development tool.
• Extensive experience in developing functional and integration tests as well as simulation and hardware testing.
• Proven experience of developing and testing software to requirements and ICD’s.
• Competent with MS Office tools/DOORS, for reviewing and updating technical documentation.
• Working understanding of configuration management tools such as RTC/EWM.
• Knowledge of Python / Ada / FreeRTOS would be highly beneficial.
