Job summary

CGI is recruiting a Backend / Platform Software Engineer for critical national security projects in the UK. You will design, build, and deploy cloud-native applications within secure environments, collaborating across software, platform, and automation teams to deliver scalable and resilient solutions.

You will work in Agile delivery teams, own features end-to-end, and contribute to automation, pipelines, and infrastructure improvements while operating on a Secure Site and subject to UK Security

Qualifications

• Experience developing software with Java, Go, or Python.
• Strong backend development background.
• Experience with Kubernetes and container platforms.
• Knowledge of CI/CD tooling and deployment automation.
• Experience in Linux environments; proficient with Git and source control.
• Understanding of Infrastructure as Code concepts and tooling.
• Knowledge of cloud-native application development principles.
• Experience working in Agile software delivery teams.
• Strong problem-solving and collaboration skills.

Due to the secure nature of the programme, you will need to hold UK Security Clearance or be eligible to go through this clearance. This role is based on a Secure Site.

Your future duties and responsibilities

n this role, you will develop and enhance backend services that underpin critical applications used within national security environments. Working within Agile delivery teams, you will collaborate closely with software, platform, and infrastructure specialists to build reliable, scalable, and secure cloud-native solutions. You'll take ownership of features throughout the development lifecycle, from design and implementation through to deployment and operational support.

You will also contribute to modern engineering practices by improving automation, deployment pipelines, testing approaches, and infrastructure capabilities. Your work will directly support the delivery of high-quality software while enabling teams to deploy and operate services efficiently within complex, mission-critical environments.
