A leading financial institution in the UK is looking for a Software Engineer to join their Halifax team. The role involves writing efficient code, collaborating on software projects, and maintaining applications. Candidates should have experience in Python, SQL programming, and ETL principles. JOB TITLE: Software Engineer
SALARY: £47,790 - £60,000
LOCATION: Halifax
HOURS: Full time
WORKING PATTERN: Hybrid, 40% (or two days) in an office site
As a Software Engineer, you'll be part of a dynamic team, working on the design, development and maintenance of software applications. Working alongside experienced engineers you'll contribute to building high-quality solutions that drive real impact. This role is all about hands on engineering - you'll focus on writing great code, solving technical challenges, and continuously improving our applications.
Write clean, efficient, and well-documented code while learning best practices through code reviews and team discussions
Work with senior engineers to understand project requirements, fix bugs, and build great software together
Keep things running smoothly but maintaining and troubleshooting applications - when issues arise, you'll help fix them fast
Dive into root cause analysis, boost security, and make sure our software stays reliable
Stay ahead of industry trends, sharpen your coding game, and grow in an agile environment
Stay on top of live service support, keeping an eye out for bugs and making sure everything runs smoothly

Primary Programming Languages - Python, bash scripting
Knowledge of ETL or ELT design principles
Understanding of SQL programming
Software Development Lifecycle, GCP Cloud Composer, GKE, Cloud Storage, Cloud Pub/Sub, Terraform, CI/CD using Harness, GitHub, Agile working
Java and Springboot or Quarkus
Quality Engineering - especially test automation
