Job Title: AI Augmented Software Engineer

The AI Augmented Software Engineer role enables a new way of building software as the team moves to an AI-first approach, using Claude Code and other AI coding tools to design, build, and shape features that accelerate the achievement of business objectives. The role will be responsible for the full software development life cycle for specific projects from discovery, coding, testing, deployment, DevOps, observability, and cybersecurity.

Key Responsibilities
  • Proactively communicate progress, blockers, and timelines to the Head of Engineering and Product & Delivery Lead
  • Use cutting‑edge AI coding tools, particularly Claude Code, to design, implement, and improve features on our EQUAL platform
  • Work across product, design, data, DevOps, and cyber‑security domains to understand problems and ship valuable solutions quickly
  • Translate business goals into actionable software deliverables
  • Define, refine and review precise prompts, specifications, and tasks for AI tools
  • Ensure high‑quality deliverables through unit testing, automated checks, and clear documentation
  • Suggest and implement improvements in systems, processes, and developer workflows, especially where AI can remove friction
  • Collaborate with the team to maintain consistent use of AI tools, establish patterns, guardrails, and best practices
  • Stay current on the latest developments in AI tooling and practices to keep the Skills Network at the cutting edge of AI‑assisted software development
Qualifications & Experience (Essential)
  • High proficiency in at least one programming language, with the ability to learn new languages quickly
  • Experience writing and maintaining unit tests or other automated tests in any language or framework
  • Ability to take a feature or problem from idea through to production—including design, implementation, testing, and deployment
  • Strong interest in AI tools for software engineering, with a clear view on strengths, weaknesses, and appropriate use
  • Comfortable reviewing and editing AI‑generated code and content, rather than blindly accepting outputs
  • Good collaboration skills when working with cross‑functional teams and stakeholders
  • Clear, concise written and verbal communication, including reporting on progress, trade‑offs, and technical constraints
  • Demonstrated ability to balance delivery speed with code quality, security, and long‑term maintainability
  • Habit of applying engineering best practices: version control, code review, documentation, and sensible testing
Qualifications & Experience (Desirable)
  • Experience using AI coding assistants (e.g., Claude Code, GitHub Copilot) in daily work
  • Exposure to modern DevOps practices (CI/CD, infrastructure as code, monitoring, incident response)
  • Exposure to secure coding practices or application‑level cyber‑security concerns
  • Experience working across different parts of the stack or a track record of picking up new tools rapidly
  • A genuine interest in education and the impact of technology and AI on learning
Job Title: Research Software Engineer

The role is campus‑based with flexible or hybrid working arrangements. The candidate will contribute to data analytics and AI research, focusing on developing precise prompts and refining AI‑generated outputs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support research projects by designing, implementing, and testing software solutions
  • Refine and review AI‑generated code and documentation to ensure quality and reliability
  • Collaborate with cross‑functional research teams to deliver research outcomes efficiently
Qualifications & Experience
  • Strong programming skills with proficiency in at least one major language
  • Experience with unit testing, automated tests, and documentation
  • Ability to translate research goals into technical deliverables
