Job summary

Kaluza is hiring backend engineers to join our Technology community in the UK. You’ll work across data-led and product-focused software engineering teams, building scalable services in a fast-moving environment.

Join a hybrid team with 3 days in the London/Bristol/Edinburgh offices and a strong emphasis on learning, collaboration, and delivering impactful energy platform solutions using modern stacks like TypeScript, Node.js, and AWS.

Qualifications

• Hands-on backend coding experience, preferably TypeScript.
• Basic understanding of cloud technologies, especially AWS.
• Familiarity with databases and APIs; desire to build reliable software.
• Collaborative mindset, eager to learn from others and contribute.
• Curiosity for how things work and proactive skill improvement.
• Passion for building technology that solves real user problems.

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain backend services using modern technologies like TypeScript and Node.js.

• Write clean, maintainable code and participate in code reviews to grow technically.
• Contribute to ongoing development of services with team support.

• Ask questions, seek feedback, and share learnings to support the team environment.

This role can be based in our London, Bristol or Edinburgh offices, and requires an existing right to work in the UK.

What will I be doing?

You'll be joining the Kaluza Technology community. We’re a large team of both data-led and product focused Software and Production Engineers, pushing the boundaries of technology and working at an extraordinary scale.

As a collective we strive for engineering greatness and by ensuring best practices across the board of the community.

Our tech stack is fluid, but broadly you can find yourself working with:

Typescript, Node JS, Terraform, Gitactions, Kubernetes, Docker, AWS, Kafka, GraphQL

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain backend services using modern technologies like TypeScript and Node.js.
• Learn to work with event-driven systems and cloud platforms (especially AWS).
• Collaborate with other engineers, product managers, and designers to develop customer-facing features.

• Contribute to the ongoing development of services and systems, with support from your team.
• Work with databases (SQL or NoSQL) to manage and retrieve data.
• Take part in team discussions, stand-ups, and planning sessions to understand how we build at scale.
• Ask questions, seek feedback, and share what you’re learning to support a positive team environment.

About You

Ideally, you'll have/be:

• Some hands-on experience writing backend code, ideally in TypeScript, or keen to learn it.
• A basic understanding of cloud technologies or interest in learning about platforms like AWS.
• Familiarity with databases and APIs, and a desire to build reliable software.
• A collaborative and open mindset, you’re excited to learn from others and contribute to a team.
• A curiosity for how things work and a proactive attitude to improving your skills.
• Passion for building technology that solves real problems for users.
• Bonus: exposure to frontend development
