Job summary

Culvertech in Swindon is seeking an experienced Software Development Lead to mentor a four-person team and drive Agile delivery across PHP/React initiatives.

You will plan scoping, set engineering standards, and collaborate with the Director to prioritise technical requirements while ensuring delivery timelines and quality. The role is hybrid with office days, competitive salary, and strong focus on collaboration and development.

Qualifications

• Proven hands-on experience as a software developer with professional coding standards.
• Practical experience with PHP and/or JavaScript frameworks such as React/React Native.
• Experience leading or managing software development teams or working toward this in a technical role.
• Experience delivering software projects in an Agile environment.
• Strong understanding of the software development lifecycle.

Responsibilities

• Lead, mentor and develop a team of four: Lead Developer, Software Engineer, PHP/React Developer, Junior QA Tester.
• Plan and coordinate software development projects from scoping through to delivery.
• Establish Agile practices and engineering standards, including sprint planning, reviews and retrospectives.
• Define priorities and technical requirements with the Director.
• Monitor progress, timelines, risks and dependencies.
• Conduct meaningful code reviews and support decision-making across projects.

Salary: £31,000 - 35,000 per year

Requirements:

• Proven, hands-on experience as a software developer, with the ability to write, read and review code to a professional standard.
• Practical experience in PHP and/or JavaScript-based frameworks such as React and React Native.
• Proven experience leading or managing software development teams, or working toward this within a technical role.
• Experience delivering software projects in an Agile environment.
• Good understanding of the software development lifecycle.
• Experience with code review, automated testing, and CI/CD processes.
• Experience managing or coordinating QA and testing processes.
• Strong communication, organisation and stakeholder-management skills.
• Comfortable working in a fast-moving, consultancy-led SaaS environment where priorities can shift.
• Applicants must be based in the UK and have the right to work in the UK.
• The role is based in Swindon, Wiltshire.
• Ability to commute to Swindon SN25 5AZ or plan to relocate before starting work is preferred.

• Communicate technical progress and project risks clearly to director-level stakeholders.
