Job summary

Sky UK Limited is seeking a Release Engineer to join our hybrid team and help coordinate software releases across broadband and entertainment platforms. You will own release schedules, deployment plans and readiness reviews, ensuring quality criteria are met before production release and collaborating with Development, QA, Product and Operations to align objectives and timelines.

The role requires hands-on experience in release engineering, CI/CD, and scripting, with strong communication skills

Qualifications

  • Significant hands-on experience in Release Engineering, Release Management, DevOps or Software Delivery.
  • Experience managing large-scale releases across products and platforms.
  • Understanding of SDLC, Agile delivery, release governance, deployment strategies and operational excellence.
  • CI/CD automation with Jenkins and Git-based workflows.

Role/Team overview

Join the Release Engineering team and play a key role in delivering reliable, high-quality software releases across Broadband and Entertainment devices. You will coordinate release planning, build management, readiness, deployment and risk, working closely with Development, QA, Product and Operations to support stable customer experiences.

What you’ll do
  • Plan, coordinate and execute software releases, ensuring delivery is timely and meets agreed quality expectations.
  • Own release schedules, deployment plans, readiness reviews and go/no-go decision support.
  • Confirm quality, testing, compliance and deployment criteria are met before production release.
  • Partner with Development, QA, Product and Operations to align objectives, dependencies and delivery plans.
  • Monitor build health, release metrics and deployment outcomes, identifying and mitigating risks early.
  • Communicate release status, risks, dependencies and mitigation plans clearly to stakeholders and leadership.
What you’ll bring
Essential Criteria –
  • Significant hands-on experience in Release Engineering, Release Management, DevOps or Software Delivery.
  • Proven experience managing large-scale releases across multiple products, platforms and stakeholder groups.
  • Strong understanding of software development lifecycles, Agile delivery, release governance, deployment strategies and operational excellence.
  • Practical CI/CD and automation experience, including Jenkins and Git-based workflows, plus Git, Gerrit or SVN.
  • Strong Linux and scripting capability using Python, Bash or Shell, with software development experience in C or C++.
  • Strong analytical, organisational, problem-solving and communication skills, including release metrics and risk management.
Desirable skills and experience
  • Experience in Broadband, Video, Set-Top Box, embedded-device or RDK environments.
  • Experience improving CI/CD pipelines, build management and deployment automation.
  • Experience evaluating tools, plugins and processes that improve release efficiency and quality.

How you’ll work

We've adopted a hybrid working approach to give more flexibility on where and how we work. The hybrid working expectations for this role are 2 days in the office per week.

From developing and testing the latest products, to building cutting-edge software, our Sky Labs office in Brentwood is our home of innovation. Onsite you’ll find a range of facilities and spaces to work and connect, including a café offering hot meals and snacks.

We’re based right in the heart of Brentwood, just a 10-minute walk from the train station which has regular trains to London Liverpool Street. If cycling is more up your street, there’s bike racks and showers onsite. If driving, there’s onsite parking available and further car parks a short walk away.

Osterley –
