Job description

Software Consultant (Data Collection & Automation)

Location: Bath – Hybrid Set-up

Contract / Employment type: Short term Contract – Part-time (possibility for extensions)

About Ovyo: Ovyo works globally with companies in the TV & Media industries including some of the top household brands. Our people build the platforms that shape the way the world watches video and connects, working on a mix of long-term customer engagements and shorter consulting projects, quickly fast tracking their experience within the industry, and their career. We are a modern, dynamic company with some of the best OTT Engineers out there, and we focus on being a great place to work.

Role Overview: We are looking for a hands‑on Software Consultant with a background in Automation & Data Engineering to join our client on a part‑time basis initially. In this standalone role, you will collaborate with senior content industry consultants to evaluate their wish list of manual tasks, identify automation opportunities, and rapidly develop and deploy minimum viable products (MVPs).

  • Listen to existing manual use cases and target workflows from the team, documenting requirements and creatively identifying automation solutions (self‑built or using third‑party tools).
  • Design, build, and deploy focused, lightweight software tools for data collection, storage, and transformation, with a strong emphasis on rapid MVP deployment.
  • Expand on existing in‑house solutions where relevant, incorporating screen scraping, text analysis/search, and integration with new data sources across multiple countries.
  • Advise and guide semi‑technical junior resources on completing simpler automation tasks.
  • Research and learn new tools quickly to address a broad range of workflows.
  • Communicate technical concepts clearly to non‑technical stakeholders.
  • Demonstrate past projects to build credibility, including examples of AI‑driven workflows, independent software design/implementation, and MVP deployment.

Requirements:

  • 5–10 years of hands‑on experience as a Software Developer, up to Senior Developer level, with a proven track record of creating software independently.
  • Strong expertise in Python, AWS, and at least one database technology (e.g., SQLite, PostgreSQL, MySQL, Cassandra, MongoDB, Firestore, or other NoSQL databases).
  • Proven expertise in deploying AI‑driven workflows using generic LLMs (e.g., ChatGPT) and specialized AI tools.
  • Proficiency in one or more automation or data acquisition tools/workflows (e.g., Power Automate, Zapier, n8n, UiPath, Scrapy, BeautifulSoup).
  • Integration experience, such as working with REST APIs.
  • Some architecture or technical design experience, including gathering requirements, documenting approaches, and building solutions.
  • Familiarity with basic DevOps and deployment tools/workflows (e.g., GitHub, Docker).
  • Nice to have: Industry experience in the Media domain.
