Job summary

Haringey Council is recruiting a qualified Social Worker to join the Young Adults Service, supporting looked after children, care leavers and unaccompanied asylum-seeking young people aged 16-25 as they transition to adulthood. You will manage a varied caseload, undertake statutory assessments and pathway planning.

Working in partnership with families and professionals, you will help secure stable accommodation, access education, employment and training, while maintaining safeguarding and risk

Qualifications

• A recognised Social Work qualification and current registration with Social Work England.
• Post-qualification experience with children, young people and families in a statutory social work setting.
• Experience with looked after children and care leavers, including supporting young people as they transition from care to adulthood.
• Experience developing, implementing and reviewing care plans, pathway plans, risk assessments and packages of support.
• Knowledge of relevant legislation, statutory guidance and professional standards relating to children in care, care leavers and safeguarding.
• Ability to identify and respond appropriately to safeguarding concerns, changing levels of risk and complex needs.
• Ability to support young people to achieve stability and access suitable accommodation, education, employment and training opportunities.
• Understanding of the experiences of young people from different cultural and linguistic backgrounds, with a commitment to inclusive and anti-discriminatory practice.

Responsibilities

About the Role

As a Social Worker within the Young Adults Service, you will play a vital role in supporting looked after children, care leavers and unaccompanied asylum-seeking young people aged 16-25 as they transition successfully into adulthood. You will manage a varied caseload, undertaking statutory assessments, pathway planning, safeguarding interventions and direct work with young people to help them achieve positive outcomes.

Working in partnership with families, carers and a range of professionals, you will support young people to secure stable accommodation, access education, employment and training opportunities and develop the skills needed to live independently. You will also contribute to safeguarding and risk management processes while ensuring all statutory responsibilities are met.

About the Team

Our Young Adults Service is a busy, supportive and ambitious team committed to improving the lives of care-experienced young people. We work with young people aged 16-25, including care leavers and unaccompanied asylum-seeking children, providing high-quality support and guidance during some of the most important years of their lives. We are proud of our collaborative culture and strong partnership working with housing, education, health, employment services and the voluntary sector. As part of our team, you will be supported by experienced managers and colleagues who are passionate about achieving the best possible outcomes for young people and promoting their independence and wellbeing.

About You

You will be an experienced, qualified Social Worker who is committed to improving outcomes for looked after children, care leavers and unaccompanied asylum-seeking young people. You will bring a child-focused and relationship-based approach to your work, recognising each young person’s individual circumstances, strengths and aspirations.

You will be confident managing statutory responsibilities and complex casework, while building trusting relationships that help young people prepare for adulthood and greater independence. Organised, resilient and self-motivated, you will work effectively with families, carers and partner agencies to provide coordinated support and ensure young people’s welfare, rights and entitlements remain central to decision‑making.

You will have:

• A recognised Social Work qualification and current registration with Social Work England.
• Relevant post‑qualification experience of working with children, young people and families in a statutory social work setting.
• Experience of working with looked after children and care leavers, including supporting young people as they transition from care to adulthood.
