Job summary

About the Team

Hertfordshire's Looked After Children (LAC) Service provides statutory social work to children in care. The team supports permanence planning, care reviews, and transitions for young people. (url removed) The service works collaboratively with foster carers, residential settings, health, education, and leaving-care services to support children's wellbeing and development.

Key Responsibilities
  • Carry out assessments, care planning, and reviews for children looked after.
  • Develop and implement permanence plans (fostering, adoption, reunification) in partnership with carers and external agencies.
  • Prepare and present reports for looked-after reviews, court, and legal processes.
  • Liaise with foster carers, residential providers, education, health and other agencies.
  • Support care leavers, working towards their independence and long-term wellbeing.
Person Specification
  • Qualified Social Worker, registered with Social Work England.
  • Experience working with children in care or within LAC teams.
  • Strong knowledge of permanence planning, care legislation, and developmental needs.
  • Excellent assessment, report writing, and multi-agency working skills.
  • Empathy, resilience, and good communication.
