What you will do:
  • Conduct viability assessments by initially screening extended family and friends who could provide a safe, nurturing home under kinship or connected persons arrangements.
  • Undertake comprehensive assessments, including Form C and Special Guardianship reports, to evaluate carers and family networks, focusing on strengths, risks, attachment issues, and suitability for ongoing care.
  • Visit families in their homes, including unannounced visits, to assess the environment and engage with children, carers, and other family members, along with professionals.
  • Prepare and present reports to fostering panels, courts, and other authority bodies to ensure informed decision-making.
  • Deliver and contribute to training and preparation programmes for kinship carers, enabling them to be well-equipped and supported in their roles.
  • Provide support and supervision to approved kinship and connected carers, collaborating with children’s social workers and monitoring placement suitability.
  • Liaise and work in partnership with multi-agency colleagues, including legal services, fostering and adoption teams, education, and health professionals.
  • Maintain accurate records and input data into case management systems, ensuring high standards of analytics and report writing.
  • Travel across Devon as needed for kinship placement assessments, with some flexibility in hours (possibly evenings and weekends) to cater to the needs of carers and children.
  • Participate in team meetings, peer-learning, and contribute to the ongoing development and improvement of the Kinship Assessment Service.
