Job description

Job summary

Would you like to step into a role where your decisions directly influence the safety and future of children and families on the Isle of Man? As a Social Worker within our Initial Response Team, you'll be the first point of contact for those needing support. You'll assess needs, analyse risk, respond to concerns, work jointly with police and partner agencies, and guide families through challenging situations with clarity and compassion.

Main duties of the job

This role gives you the chance to use your professional judgement, communication skills and empathy in a setting where they make a real difference. You'll develop your practice, build confidence in fast paced decision making and play a key part in safeguarding children at the earliest stage. If you're looking for a role that stretches your skills and lets you see the impact of your work every day, we'd love to hear from you!

Please note, you must have UK initial response and/or assessment experience.

About us

By joining Manx Care on the Isle of Man you'll be stepping away from NHS pressures and demands, as the Islands healthcare system is similar but separate to the UK NHS. We provide lots of opportunities for professional learning and CPD, this includes use of our well-resourced education and training centre.

At many of our locations you'll have access to free on-site car parking. People who relocate here can also get a refund on their National Insurance contributions for the first year of living here. In addition, we offer generous relocation packages for most of our roles!

On the Isle of Man you can benefit from great lifestyle opportunities, a safe environment and great schools. Manx residents benefit from lower tax rates compared to most countries in the EU.

Job responsibilities
  • A competitive salary that increases each 12 months until you reach the salary maximum.
  • A generous annual leave entitlement, a Privilege Day and 10 Bank Holidays; your annual leave will increase after your first year and again after your third year.
  • A flexi-time scheme where you can accrue additional time worked to take time off in line with the relevant flexi-time scheme.
  • Enjoy a flexible hybrid schedule with a blend of remote work and in-office collaboration throughout the week.
  • Subject to meeting eligibility criteria, the IOM Public Service offers two pension arrangements: the Isle of Man Government Unified Scheme 2011 or the Isle of Man Government Defined Contribution (DC) Arrangement.
  • Access to the Learning, Education and Development training facility, which is exclusively for Public Service employees, to keep on top of your continuous professional development.
  • You may be eligible for a Blue Light Card, unlocking a wide range of exclusive discounts on shopping, food and leisure activities at hundreds of popular high street and online retailers.
  • Free access to the Isle of Man Government Staff Welfare Service which offers professional counselling, emotional support and signposting on a wide range of issues.
  • Ability to apply for an unpaid career break after 3 years’ service.
  • Access to the Isle of Man Public Service Cycle to Work scheme after your first year of employment.
  • Access to the Government staff canteen where you can purchase affordable meals, drinks and snacks.
  • A relocation package of up to £7,000 based on receipts is available for this role. Housing Assistance is also available where the Department will pay the difference between your current mortgage/rent bill, and that of your new accommodation on the Isle of Man, up to a maximum of £250 per month. This role also qualifies for a recruitment incentive of £3,000, payable in the 1st, 13th, and 25th months of employment.
