Job summary

Vale of Glamorgan Council is seeking a qualified Social Worker to join the Family Support Team in Barry. You will deliver longer-term support to children, young people and their families, manage risk confidently and work with multi‑agency partners to secure meaningful outcomes.

The role offers hybrid working, regular supervision and clear opportunities for development. Salary scales range from £37,280 to £40,777 (pro rata) for Grade 8, rising to £41,777–£46,142 (pro rata) for Grade 9, depending

About Us

Do you want to deliver services for children that are flexible, focused on need and readily available when families need them?

We are now seeking a Social Worker to with the expertise and skills to deliver great practice in our Family Support Team. You will help families in a purposeful way and manage risk confidently, working with families on a longer term plan. You will be involved in all aspects of work, including planning and review for children receiving care and support as well as those subject of a child protection plan, or until care proceedings conclude. Work in this team is about helping people work out what matters to them and then helping them achieve their goals.

Pay Details

Grade 8, SCP 26 – 30 £37,280 - £40,777 (pro rata). + £5000 enhancement/ Grade 9, SCP 31 – 35 £41,777 - £46,142 p.a (pro rata) + £5000 enhancement

Salary on appointment will depend upon qualification and experience as determined by the appointing officer. There is no automatic progression from Grade 8 to Grade 9

Description

About You

Workers in the Vale of Glamorgan are able to be kind, consistent and focussed in their work with children, young people and families making a real difference to children and families when circumstances are challenging. Managers are readily available and staff wellbeing is a priority.

You will need:

• To be a qualified and registered Social Worker with Social Care Wales.
• Experience of statutory social work with children, young people and their families.
• Knowledge of the principles of the Childrens Act 1989 and the Social Services and Wellbeing (Wales) Act 2014.
• Experience of using the Wales Safeguarding Procedures.
• An ability to negotiate effectively.
• A commitment to partnership working.
