Social Worker – Family Support & Child Protection
Permanent full‑time Social Worker position based in Bexley. Salary up to £46,191 per annum.
Responsibilities
- To have experience or be willing to be trained in and use the Signs of Safety practice model when working with children and families.
- To work respectfully and professionally with children and families, focused on the best interest of the child.
- To undertake regular visits and work creatively with children and young people to develop rapport that informs the work.
- To work with children and families in diverse and complex contexts such as mental ill health, disability, substance misuse, domestic abuse, sexual exploitation, radicalisation, poverty, discrimination, and immigration.
- To be responsible for and manage children’s cases in the respective team or service area (e.g., Children Looked After, Referral & Assessments).
- To coordinate and implement plans based on updated assessments, addressing safety and welfare needs.
- To keep contemporaneous case notes and regularly update records, reports, plans, and assessments.
- To undertake or cooperate with child protection enquiries to identify risks or concerns.
- To participate in regular supervision with line manager to review case developments and reflect on work.
- To respectfully engage with children and families, seeking their input and involving them in planning.
- To help identify and contribute to service improvement and delivery areas.
- To perform any other duties reasonably requested by the manager related to the council’s safeguarding responsibilities.
Qualifications
- Social work qualification with registration with Social Work England.
- Experience managing social work caseloads and supervising others.
- Experience in community and/or group work.
- Knowledge of children’s health and social care systems, agencies, and relevant legislation.
