Social Worker – Children in Need (CIN) Team

Are you an experienced and resilient Social Worker with a strong background in safeguarding? Join the Children in Need (CIN) Team at Leicester City Council and help us deliver timely, effective support to children and families in our vibrant city.

The Role

The CIN Team focuses on supporting children whose needs are assessed under Section 17 of the Children Act 1989. However, the most pressured area of our work requires candidates with robust experience in high-risk safeguarding.

Key responsibilities
  • Managing a complex caseload of approximately 20 children and families, focusing on assessing, planning, and reviewing support to improve outcomes.
  • Leading on Child Protection (CP) cases and Section 47 investigations, demonstrating expert risk analysis and management skills.
  • Undertaking court work, including preparing high-quality statements, care plans, and attending court as a professional witness, often under tight deadlines.
  • Working collaboratively with multi-agency partners to implement effective CIN and Child Protection plans.
  • Completing thorough and analytical assessments and reports within statutory timescales.
Candidate Requirements

We are looking for seasoned professionals to join our front-line service. Candidates must have a minimum of three years’ post-qualifying experience in permanent roles before being considered for this position.

Please ensure your CV clearly states whether your previous experience was in a permanent or temporary (locum) capacity.

The ideal candidate will also possess :
  • Demonstrable experience of managing complex CP and court cases.
  • Expert knowledge of relevant children's legislation, policies, and procedures.
  • Commitment to engaging in direct work with children and families to foster positive change.
  • Current registration with Social Work England.
Working Arrangement

We operate a supportive hybrid working model to balance professional demands with personal well-being.

  • Hybrid Working : You will have the flexibility of hybrid working, but the team typically expects all staff to be in the office on Tuesdays and Wednesdays for team meetings, supervision, and collaborative work. Any additional required office days will be at the discretion of the Team Manager.
  • Parking : Locum staff will park in the same local car parks as permanent staff and will be able to claim back their parking expenses.
