Assessment & Child Protection Social Worker

Swindon Borough Council is seeking Qualified, Experienced, and Advanced Social Workers to join our busy and supportive Assessment and Child Protection Team. We are looking for practitioners dedicated to making a tangible difference at the front door of our service, ensuring children receive the right support at the right time.

The Role

In this dynamic environment, you will play a crucial role in the initial stages of intervention.

  • Duty Cycle:Operating on a 5-week duty cycle, you will be on duty once every five weeks.
  • Caseload:During your duty week, you will be allocated a caseload of children requiring statutory assessment or child protection investigation. These assessments are critical in informing the development of the child's care plan.
  • Pathways & Planning:Following assessment, you will determine the best route for the child. This may include on-going support from within community resources, our Family Intervention and Support Service (FISS), or implementing a Child in Need or Child Protection Plan.
  • Transitions:A key focus of this role is ensuring smooth transitions for all children as they move between services or step down to early help.
Working Pattern

We offer a structured hybrid model to balance team support with flexibility:

  • Duty Week:You are expected to be in the office 5 days a week.
  • Off-Duty Weeks:You are expected to be in the office 2-3 days a week.

  • £100 Weekly Allowance:We have confirmed that the £100 weekly travel and accommodation expense payment will remain in place for all agency placements until March 2026.
Requirements
  • Qualification:Social Work Degree or equivalent (CQSW, DipSW, CSS).
  • Registration:Active registration with Social Work England.
  • Experience:Significant post-qualifying experience in Assessment and Child Protection.
  • Transport:A full driving license and access to a vehicle.
