Job summary

A local authority recruitment agency is seeking a Best Interest Assessor for a 3-month contract. The successful candidate will provide assessments and support Adult Social Care teams, ensuring legal compliance and safeguarding individual rights. Requires experience in Best Interest Assessments and Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards. This role offers part-time remote work with an expected commitment of approximately 2 hours per day.

Qualifications

  • Qualified as a Social Care Practitioner with experience in Best Interest Assessments.
  • Proven experience in carrying out Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards assessments.
  • Excellent ability to produce clear and concise reports.

Job Summary

Acting as a Best Interest Assessor (BIA) with signature authority for Best Interest Assessments and Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS) assessments. Supporting Adult Social Care teams by ensuring legal compliance and safeguarding individuals' rights during complex decision-making processes. Providing expert judgement on capacity and consent matters relating to deprivation of liberty.


Key Duties and Accountabilities


  • Act as a Best Interest Assessor (BIA) with signature authority for Best Interest Assessments and Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS) assessments.

  • Support Adult Social Care teams by ensuring legal compliance and safeguarding individuals' rights during complex decision-making processes.

  • Provide expert judgement on capacity and consent matters relating to deprivation of liberty.

  • Conduct and authorise Best Interest Assessments and DoLS assessments in line with relevant legislation.

  • Review cases to determine whether deprivation of liberty safeguards apply and ensure assessments are accurate and timely.

  • Liaise with health and social care professionals, legal representatives and families to gather comprehensive information.

  • Provide clear detailed reports and recommendations following assessments.

  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of legislation, policies and best practices related to mental capacity and safeguarding.

  • Uphold confidentiality and manage sensitive information securely.


Skills and Experience


  • Strong understanding of the Mental Capacity Act and relevant safeguarding legislation.

  • Experience in assessing capacity and making complex decisions involving deprivation of liberty.

  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to produce clear and concise reports.

  • Ability to work independently managing a part-time remote workload efficiently.

  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.


Additional Information
