You will:

  • Develop and implement a long-term social media strategy to grow reach, engagement and impact.
  • Collaborate across teams to amplify campaigns, partnerships and policy work.
  • Manage social media tools and scheduling platforms, ensuring efficient workflows and performance tracking.
  • Deliver regular performance reports and use insights to optimise content and strategy.
  • Support paid social campaigns and promotions in partnership with external agencies.
Responsibilities
Planning & Management
  • Lead the planning, creation, and delivery of content across our core channels: Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, X (Twitter), and Bluesky.
  • Develop and implement a long-term social media strategy to grow engagement, reach, and impact.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across the organisation to promote priority areas including corporate partnerships, policy work, and major campaigns.
  • Work closely with the Digital Channels Manager and Media Manager to align content planning and execution.
  • Oversee our social scheduling tool (currently Loomly) and explore new tools to improve insights, social listening, and performance.
  • Maintain a consistent approach to community management, supported by colleagues across teams.
  • Provide guidance for devolved accounts (e.g. learning channels) and develop and maintain our best-practice social media guidelines.
Reporting & Insights
  • Deliver monthly performance insights and long-term trend analysis.
  • Use data to inform decisions, optimise content, and benchmark against sector leaders.
  • Produce engaging reports showcasing the impact of income generation, partner activity, and sponsorships.
Paid Campaigns
  • Collaborate with our advertising agency to develop briefs, shape paid social strategies, and coordinate reporting.
  • Support paid promotion for membership drives, appeals, online shop activity, and flagship campaigns such as the Great British Beach Clean.

Knowledge and experience
Essential:
  • Proven experience creating engaging social campaigns that combine creativity, audience insight, and platform-specific expertise.
  • A strong understanding of audience behaviours across platforms and applying that knowledge to tailor content that gets results.
  • Experience as a Social Media Manager or Senior Social Media Officer/Exec – you must be confident in a social media lead role with the support of our Head of Digital and Digital Channels Manager.
  • Knowledge of paid social advertising and awareness of current industry trends.
  • Applied knowledge of data protection in social lead generation, platform policies and responsible and ethical use of AI in content.
  • Experience influencing cross-functional teams to deliver coordinated campaigns.
  • Experience using social media scheduling and analytics tools.
Desirable:
  • Experience working in an environmental or purpose-driven organisation.
  • Understanding of environmental issues and ability to translate complex messages for different audiences.
Skills and abilities
  • Excellent content planning and storytelling tailored to different platforms.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to turn data into actionable insights.
  • Strong ability to influence colleagues and teams to deliver strong, coordinated campaigns.

  • Strong creative judgement with a sharp eye for design, tone, and visual coherence.
  • Excellent project management and organisational skills – able to juggle multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Clear communication and collaboration skills across teams and with external partners.
