Job description
Overview

We require a skilled and creative volunteer to support our social media presence. Working from a provided calendar of planned posts, you’ll create compelling copy and visuals for social media that raise awareness and support our fundraising.

What difference will you make?

Your work will directly expand the reach and visibility of My Cancer My Choices, ensuring people with cancer know about the free complementary therapies and support we provide. By creating powerful, engaging social media content, you’ll help:

  • Raise awareness of our services among those who need them most
  • Support fundraising campaigns and events
  • Grow online engagement and strengthen our community
  • Share uplifting, real stories that inspire others

Every post you create helps us reach more people, raise vital funds, and ultimately support more individuals living with cancer.

What are we looking for?

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Strong writing ability able to craft engaging, story-driven content with clear calls-to-action
  • Good understanding of Facebook, LinkedIn, and Instagram – how to tailor content to each platform and audience
  • Experience in creating graphics, images, and/or short-form videos for social media
  • Proficient in design tools such as Canva or Adobe Creative Suite
  • Ability to follow and maintain a brand identity across all content
  • Organised and reliable – able to meet deadlines and deliver a completed monthly calendar on time

Desirable Skills & Experience

  • Experience working or volunteering in the charity sector or with community organisations
  • Confidence using AI tools responsibly to support content creation, with proven examples of past use
  • Knowledge of social media analytics and performance metrics
  • Interest in contributing ideas and collaborating on broader social media strategy

Practical Requirements

  • This is a remote role – you will need
  • Your own computer or laptop
  • Access to design software (e.g. Canva / Adobe Creative Cloud)
  • A reliable internet connection
  • Your own workspace to complete tasks independently
  • Availability to meet agreed deadlines
  • A full approved content calendar submitted 1 week before the start of each month
  • Monthly calendar and briefs provided 6 weeks in advance
  • Occasional online meetings with the Marketing Communications Officer (and quarterly review discussions on social media performance)
What will you be doing?

We’re looking for a social media content creator to help us bring our charity’s work to life online. You’ll be provided with a clear social media calendar and brief each month, with guidance on post topics, calls-to-action, and brand requirements. From there, your role will be to:

  • Write engaging, story-led content tailored for Facebook, LinkedIn, and Instagram
  • Create accompanying graphics, images, or short videos (unless a specific design is already provided)
  • Adapt content for different audiences and platforms while staying true to our brand identity
  • Send all draft content back for approval before it’s scheduled
  • Take part in quarterly reviews to analyse performance and suggest improvements

Although this is primarily a task-based role, we also welcome volunteers who want to contribute ideas, share strategic input, or collaborate on new approaches to grow our audience.

Key Deliverables
  • A completed and approved monthly social media content calendar, delivered one week before the new month begins.
  • Each calendar includes 2–4 posts per week (average 2–3), with copy and designs created in line with our brand and messaging.
Flexibility in the Role

The posting schedule and deadlines are set, but how you approach content creation is flexible. If you bring skills in strategy, AI, or fresh creative ideas, we’re open to exploring them.

You’ll work directly with the Marketing Communications Officer, who will provide briefs, the social media calendar, and final approval. The Marketing Communications Officer will also handle all scheduling and posting of the content.
