Overview
This is a private client role (not Swansea City Council). A Personal Assistant is sought to support a young adult with ASD, selective mutism, epilepsy and Functional Neurological Disorder who uses a wheelchair. The PA will work up to 10 hours per week, primarily in the evenings after college and occasionally on weekends.
Location: private arrangement with the client. Driver is required to take the client out. Female applicants may be preferred.
Responsibilities
- Accompany the client to social and leisure activities in the evenings (up to two weeknights, not Fridays due to extra tutoring) and occasionally on weekends (approximately every other Saturday).
- Assist with activities such as going to the cinema, theatre, bowling, shopping, or dining out; walks in a wheelchair often combined with photography;
- Spend time with animals (client has 2 dogs, 1 cat, and a bird; client has an interest in horses);
- Participate in arts and crafts and support independent social interactions with friends away from parents.
Requirements
- Essential: Must be a driver with access to a car (client cannot drive due to seizures).
- Desirable: Friendly, reliable and supportive with an understanding of medical needs; able to encourage independence while ensuring safety.
- Respect and understand the importance of privacy and confidentiality.
- Be confident, mature and patient; dependable and punctual; friendly with an easy-going manner; adaptable and flexible; supportive without taking over.
- Have business insurance on your car to transport clients.
Position Details
- Hours: Up to 10 hours per week.
- Rate of pay: £13.13 per hour.
- Trade/Logistics: Driver is required; DBS disclosure must be processed before commencement. Costs of DBS will be met by the client when eligible.
- Trial/Probation: Six-month probationary period at the outset.
- Leave: Annual leave calculated on a pro rata basis.
