Job Summary

The SMT Machine Operator is responsible for the setup, operation, and basic programming support of SMT process equipment used in PCBA manufacturing, including board marking, solder paste printing, solder paste inspection (SPI), SMT placement, and reflow thermal profiling systems. The role ensures stable equipment operation, consistent product quality, and adherence to production, safety, and quality standards.

Responsibilities
  • Operate SMT production equipment including solder paste printers, Pick & Place machines, and reflow ovens in accordance with documented work instructions and process parameters.
  • Perform machine start-up, changeovers, and basic setup adjustments (e.g., feeders, nozzles, stencil alignment) to support scheduled production runs.
  • Monitor equipment performance and maintain target OEE by minimizing downtime, responding to alarms, and escalating issues promptly.
  • Conduct in-process inspections (solder paste, component placement, reflow profile indicators) to ensure product quality meets IPC and internal standards.
  • Follow 5S, ESD, and Safety requirements at all times; maintain a clean, organized, and hazard-free work area.
  • Meet daily production output, yield, and schedule commitments while adhering to quality requirements.
  • Accurately complete production records, checklists, and traceability documentation.
  • Identify, report, and assist in troubleshooting equipment faults, process deviations, and quality defects in collaboration with technicians and supervisors.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives by following standard work and suggesting process or housekeeping improvements when appropriate.
Required Skills / Qualification
  • Minimum 1 year of hands‑on SMT machine operation experience (printer, Pick & Place, reflow).
  • Ability to operate SMT equipment independently and meet production, quality, and OEE targets.
  • Working knowledge of SMT processes and ability to recognize common placement and soldering defects.
  • Ability to read and follow work instructions, safety rules, and equipment manuals.
  • Proficient in basic math and use of measurement tools (rulers, gauges, scales).
  • Basic computer skills for production reporting and document review (e.g., Microsoft Word).
  • Consistent adherence to 5S, ESD, and safety standards.
  • Physically able to stand for long periods and handle small electronic components.

This range reflects the minimum and maximum target payable for the base salary of new hires across all Canadian locations. Actual compensation may vary outside this range and is dependent on various factors.
