Job description

As a Smoke Ventilation Maintenance Technician, you will take responsibility for carrying out maintenance and inspection activities on smoke ventilation systems with a greater degree of independence than an Assistant. You will be expected to diagnose issues, recommend remedial works, and complete reports to a high standard.

While you will not be required to hold electrical qualifications, you must bring strong technical knowledge of smoke ventilation systems and be confident working safely and effectively on-site. You may also provide guidance to junior colleagues or assistants.

Carry out planned preventive maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance on smoke ventilation systems.

Independently inspect, test, and record system performance in line with manufacturer guidance and applicable standards.

Accurately identify faults, record findings, and propose remedial actions using FTG company software.

Work with engineers and project managers to ensure systems remain compliant and operational.

Provide support and informal guidance to junior team members or assistants.

Maintain a tidy and safe work environment, both on-site and in the company vehicle.

Represent FTG Ltd professionally when liaising with clients, building managers, and site representatives.

Travel primarily in London and the South East, with occasional work UK-wide including stop-overs and overtime.

Authority, Health & Safety Powers
  • Authority to make commissioning changes: No.
  • Authority to stop works: No.
  • Right to refuse unsafe work: Yes - empowered to refuse to carry out any task where health and safety may be compromised, and to immediately report concerns to the supervising engineer or manager.
Main duties
  • Conduct routine maintenance and servicing of smoke ventilation systems independently.
  • Diagnose system faults and identify defective components or non-compliances.
  • Accurately record all maintenance findings, test results, and remedial recommendations.
  • Use your own basic tools and any company-supplied equipment as required.
  • Work safely at height when required, using harnesses, ladders, or access equipment provided.
  • Support project delivery by assisting engineers during larger works or commissioning phases.
  • Take responsibility for keeping up to date with smoke ventilation standards and product training.
  • Contribute to maintaining compliance with all relevant British Standards and company policies.
  • Carry out any other reasonable requests from FTG management.

We need great technicians - Are you an ambitious, focussed and personable? A hands‑on smoke ventilation individual, looking to progress your skills in a professional and friendly environment?
