Job description

This practice is a well-established, RCVS-accredited Tier 3 hospital with an excellent local reputation. They offer a unique blend of first opinion and referral-level care, thanks to both state-of-the-art facilities and the exceptional experience within the team.
They are currently seeking a Veterinary Surgeon to join them, replacing a valued team member who is relocating to Scotland. This is a permanent position, ideally full-time, although part-time arrangements will be considered for the right candidate. A particular interest in internal medicine would be welcomed, and they’re happy to support further development with a certificate if desired. The dedicated out-of-hours team ensures that there are no night shifts required for this role.
You’ll be working alongside a large, supportive team of 17 vets, with a mix of full and part-time schedules. The clinical team is backed by 23 nurses and 16 support staff, all committed to providing outstanding patient care. The veterinary team is led by highly experienced clinicians, all of whom bring specialist skills and leadership to the practice.
They are exceptionally well-equipped, with the main hospital having high-end diagnostic and surgical facilities including digital radiography (both standard and dental), ultrasound, endoscopy, rhinoscopy, bronchoscopy, laparoscopy, electrocautery, tonometry, a slit lamp, and more. The in-house lab is capable of performing a wide range of tests such as T4, SDMA, Cortisol, Bile acids, Cpli/Fpli, Coags, and urine sediment analysis. They also have rapid cytology and haematology interpretation through Imagyst. The largest branch is also fully equipped with its own digital imaging suite, ultrasound, and lab facilities.
Many of the vets hold certificates in areas such as surgery, internal medicine, ophthalmology, anaesthesia, and dermatology. Several others are currently studying towards additional qualifications. Surgical capabilities include complex procedures like BOAS, TPLO, CCWO, fracture repairs, TECAs, and soft tissue surgeries such as cholecystectomy and liver lobe resections. Complementary therapies including laser therapy, acupuncture, and physiotherapy are also available in-house. Looking ahead, a planning application has been approved for a CT scanner, with installation expected in early 2026.
The practice offers a great mix of town and countryside living. Positioned conveniently between Nottingham and Derby, with excellent transport links including nearby access to the M1, a local train station, regular bus routes, and East Midlands Airport close by—making it an ideal base for commuters.
They offer a salary of up to £60,000 depending on experience, along with 6.6 weeks of paid holiday including bank holidays. Certificate support is available, along with a £1,750 CPD allowance and ongoing training opportunities. Professional memberships including RCVS, VDS, and another of your choice are covered.
You’ll also have access to enhanced family leave policies, a company pension scheme, Health Shield cover, company sick pay, and generous staff discounts on veterinary services. Additional perks shopping and lifestyle discounts, a cycle-to-work scheme, and more.
If you’re looking to join a friendly, forward-thinking, and clinically progressive team where your skills and interests will be supported and developed, we would love to hear from you.
