Job summary

Barhale is seeking a Skilled Operative to support drainage, earthworks and pavements on-site. You will follow safety standards, read risk/method statements, and ensure equipment is safe and compliant.

Essential: CSCS card and experience in general civil work. CPCS tickets for plant such as dumper/roller/excavator/telehandler are preferred. Barhale offers long-term frameworks and career development.

Qualifications

• Experience in general civil work including earthworks, drainage, ducting, kerbing and concreting.
• CSCS card holder with valid competencies is essential.
• CPCS forward tipping dumper, slinger/signaller, ride-on roller, 360 excavator or telehandler tickets are required or desirable.

Responsibilities

• Carry out tasks set by site supervisors and gangers to high safety standards.
• Understand risk and method statements and follow best practices on site.
• Ensure equipment is safe and in good working order before use.
• Install drainage, lay concrete, kerbs and pavements; undertake excavation and groundworks.
• Maintain a clean, safe, and compliant work area; communicate any concerns to supervision.

Skilled Operative

The Role

To carry out tasks set by site supervisors and gangers to a high level of safety standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Understand all relevant risk and method statements
• Use best/safe practice on all tasks carried out
• Checks are conducted to ensure equipment that may be used is safe
• Install drainage, lay concrete, kerbs, and pavements, and carry out excavation and groundworks, digging trenches, loading and unloading materials
• Ensure a safe, tidy place of work
• Implement best practice procedures
• Maximise use of own working time
• Ensure signed up for all permits and briefings before commencing any work
• Communicate with the site supervisor on any concerns
• Feedback to site management with near-miss reporting
• Ensure you attend all site briefings, forums, and toolbox talks
• Deputise for conducting briefings and toolbox talks

Essential:

• Experience in general civil work (earthwork, drainage, ducting, kerbing, and concreting)
• CSCS card
• Either CPCS forward tipping dumper/ slinger signaller/ride on roller/360 excavator/telehandler

Desireable:

• SSSTS/SMSTS
• ½ day environmental awareness
• NRSWA
