Site Supervisor

Salary: £36,000 per annum, plus Veolia benefits and pension

Hours: Monday to Friday, 48 hours per week.

Location: Washington, Tyne and Wear, NE38 8QU

What you'll be doing
  • Managing the site in line with the Veolia Minimum Requirements toolkit standard, environmental permit requirements, relevant ISO standards, VMS and any other relevant standards.
  • Manage site maintenance, including weekly safety inspections of plant and equipment, legionella checks, fire alarm, pump house, fly boards, housekeeping and infrastructure checks.
  • Play an active role in incident and accident investigation, including any follow on remedial actions around retraining, assessment or safety briefing
  • Supervise the tipping and loading activities, covering for plant operatives as an when required
  • Responsible for the weighbridge and shed operations, with 3 direct reports
  • Managing 3rd party hauliers, booking loads on a weekly basis in conjunction with internal departments
  • Ensuring site supplies are maintained, fuel, ad-blu, spill kits, 1st aid kits, vehicle wash etc.
  • Perform site maintenance tasks, sweeping, minor building repairs, painting, lawnmowing, weeding, drainage, jet washing, disinfecting.
  • Maintain the site environmental diary with load details, weather, visitors etc
  • Manage the pre planned maintenance and reactive maintenance schedules, including contractor control, site inductions, risk assessments and method statements, permit to work.
  • Be the primary out of hours contact for site security and safety, responding to intruder and fire alarms and co-ordinating with management (additional Call Out payments are available)
What we're looking for

Essential:

  • You will need to be a good communicator and be able to share findings and information clearly with a solutions focussed approach
  • Being someone who is a problem solver and quick to act using own initiative.
  • Strong knowledge of environmental regulations and waste management practices
  • Experienced in leading toolbox talks and safety observations
  • Understanding of a logistical business involving HGVs
  • Proficiency in basic google/microsoft platforms
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a focus on team work
  • Driving license
  • CMS Training
  • Yellow Plant trained or working towards (loading shovel, material handler)

Desirable:

  • Level 3 Leadership & Management or equivalent work experience
  • IOSH Managing Safety or NEBOSH Certificate
  • HGV Class 2 licence
