Job description

Job Title: Site Engineer

Location: Plymouth

Hours: 45 per week, 07:30 - 17:00

Day Rate: £300 - £400 per day (Umbrella PAYE)

Lodge Allowance: £50 per day

The Role

Our client is seeking experienced Site/Section Engineers to support a major redevelopment project in Plymouth. You will be responsible for assisting the engineering team in managing the technical compliance of works to design specifications, ensuring delivery is safe, on time, and to the required quality.

This position offers long‑term career progression opportunities with a Tier One contractor and exposure to large‑scale, complex civil engineering works.

Due to the sensitive nature of the site, BPSS security clearance is required. Please note this can take up to 8 weeks.

Eligibility: Candidates must hold a passport from an EU, NATO, Five Eyes, or MISWG member country and have resided in the UK for the past 5 years.

Key Responsibilities
  • Setting out works within specified tolerances using survey equipment (GPS, Total Station, levels).
  • Assisting in the preparation of as‑built drawings and updating the Project Quality Plan.
  • Carrying out quality checks, surveys, and inspections across reinforced concrete, drainage, piling, and brickwork.
  • Supporting site safety, environmental, and quality inspections.
  • Assisting in procurement of materials and equipment.
  • Maintaining trackers, daily diaries, sketches, and drawing registers.
  • Ensuring calibration and use of setting‑out equipment is properly recorded.
  • Supporting resolution of technical queries and overcoming on‑site engineering challenges.
  • Contributing to the development of RAMS, ITPs, and quality check sheets.
  • Providing clear communication of setting‑out information to site teams.
About You
  • Degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent (BSc, BEng, MEng, Eng Tech, etc.) or Higher Apprenticeship.
  • Working towards Chartership or Incorporation with ICE/IStructE or similar body (desirable).
  • Experience with Leica survey equipment (GPS, Total Station, Optical & Digital Levels).
  • Strong background in reinforced concrete structures with system formwork.
  • Awareness of commercial processes and Quality Management Systems.
  • Ability to write RAMS and develop ITPs.
  • Excellent organisational, leadership, and IT skills.
  • Flexible to work weekends and out‑of‑hours when required.
  • Hold Supervisor HSE test and CSCS White AQP card.
