Job summary

FCC Environment is seeking a Site Operative in Ampthill, Bedfordshire, to help segregate waste streams, assist the public with recycling, and ensure safe site operations. The role is full-time and on-site, with training and progression opportunities provided.

You will support safe waste handling, help maintain a tidy site, and follow company policies and health & safety procedures. A UK driving licence and strong customer service skills are essential.

Qualifications

• A proven track record in a similar role.
• Knowledge of the waste industry and waste streams.
• A valid UK driving licence.
• Excellent customer service and communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively as part of a team or under your own supervision.
• Reliable, hardworking and flexible approach.
• Ability to work on your own initiative.
• Strong commitment to health and safety culture.
• Willingness to complete required training (First Aider, Incident Controller and Materials Handler Operative).

Responsibilities

• Ensuring different waste streams are segregated into the appropriate containers.
• Assisting members of the public with separating their waste and providing general recycling advice.
• Greeting members of the public and helping them to use the site effectively.
• Ensuring waste is stored safely and in accordance with permit requirements.
• Ensuring hazardous waste is separated and stored appropriately.
• Keeping the site clean and tidy at all times.
• Identifying contaminated recyclable materials and taking appropriate action.
• Reporting Health and Safety incidents and near misses in accordance with company procedures.
• Ensuring waste tickets, Waste Transfer Notes and Consignment Notes are completed correctly.
• Working in accordance with FCC company policies, risk assessments and safe working practices.

Hourly Rate – £12.89 per hour

As a Site Operative at FCC Environment, you will assist members of the public and ensure waste is correctly separated into the appropriate waste streams, helping to maximise recycling across the site.

This vacancy is for a full‑time position.
