Job summary

Murphy is seeking a Site Manager (Steel) to oversee on-site structural steel installation, lead teams, coordinate with subcontractors and engineers, and ensure health and safety compliance on projects based from our Warrington office. The role is site-based and requires travel to project locations.

You will manage steel erection activities, review drawings, monitor progress, and maintain QA records while upholding Murphy standards and deadlines, with a competitive package and development

Qualifications

  • Proven experience in a Steel Site Manager or similar role within the construction/steel industry.
  • Strong knowledge of structural steel erection processes.
  • Valid SMSTS certification.
  • CSCS card (Black/Gold preferred).
  • First Aid at Work certification (desirable).
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and organisational skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.
  • Strong understanding of health & safety regulations.
  • Appointed person (A61) – preferred.
  • Lifting supervisor and Temporary works supervisor roles considered.
  • Full UK driving licence.
  • Flexibility to travel and work away from home.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance with health & safety regulations, company policies, and industry standards
  • Conduct regular site inspections, toolbox talks, and risk assessments
  • Liaise with clients, engineers, project managers, and other stakeholders
  • Monitor project progress and report on timelines, costs, and any issues
  • Review technical drawings and ensure installations meet design requirements
  • Resolve on-site issues quickly to avoid delays
  • Manage site documentation, including permits, reports, and QA records
  • Ensure quality control procedures are followed at all stages

Job description

The Site Manager (Steel) is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of structural steel installation projects on-site. This includes managing teams, ensuring health and safety compliance, coordinating with subcontractors / contractors, and delivering projects on time and within budget, based out of our Warrington office.
This is a site-based role, and the successful candidate must be willing and able to work away from home as required by project locations.

A day in the life of a Murphy Site Manager:
