Overview
A specialist contractor operating within the remediation and bulk earthworks sector is seeking an experienced Site Manager to manage large-scale earthworks, remediation, and enabling works schemes across the North West.
The role requires a strong hands‑on leader capable of maintaining site safety, coordinating operational teams, and ensuring that all works are delivered to programme, specification, and environmental compliance requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Site Leadership & Coordination
- Manage daily site activities across bulk earthworks, remediation, enabling works, and excavation packages.
- Lead plant operators, subcontractors, and direct labour to deliver works efficiently and safely.
- Conduct daily briefings, toolbox talks, and ensure clear communication of RAMS.
- Support the Project Manager with planning, sequencing, and short‑term programme updates.
Health, Safety & Environmental Compliance
- Drive a strong safety culture on site, ensuring adherence to CDM and internal HSQE standards.
- Manage environmental controls including water management, stockpile organisation, dust suppression, and contamination protocols.
- Oversee incident investigations, reporting, and corrective actions.
Technical Delivery
- Oversee cut / fill operations, compaction, material segregation, GPS‑controlled plant, and volumetric checks.
- Manage remediation activities including contaminated soil excavation, validation, hotspot removal, bioremediation, S / S treatment, and associated controls.
- Ensure all testing (MCERTS, compaction, geotechnical, in‑situ density) is carried out to schedule and specification.
- Monitor plant utilisation, cycle times, and productivity targets.
Quality Assurance & Documentation
- Ensure compliance with method statements, specifications, and ITPs.
- Maintain accurate site records including daily diaries, plant logs, testing records, and photo documentation.
- Work alongside Engineers to confirm GPS models, surveys, and as-built information.
Stakeholder & Client Interface
- Represent the contractor professionally at progress meetings, site inspections, and audits.
- Communicate programme updates, risks, change items, and performance metrics.
- Assist with commercial processes such as early warnings, variation tracking, and site records.
Skills & Experience Required
Essential
- Proven background managing bulk earthworks and remediation projects as a Site Manager or Senior Supervisor.
- Strong understanding of earthworks methodologies, plant operations, cut / fill processes, and materials classification.
- Experience with remediation technologies such as excavation, validation, treatment processes, and contamination control.
- Deep knowledge of CDM, environmental compliance, and safe systems of work.
- Ability to read drawings, coordinate subcontractors, and collaborate with engineering and commercial teams.
- Proficient with digital site management tools and record‑keeping systems.
- Understanding of CL: AIRE, waste classification / WM3, chem testing, and environmental permitting.
Preferred
- SMSTS, CSCS (Manager), First Aid at Work.
- Experience on major brownfield regeneration or remediation schemes.
- Familiarity with GPS‑controlled plant (Topcon / Trimble).
