Job summary

Taylor Hopkinson | Powered by Brunel is seeking a Site Engineer for a major transmission project based in the UK. You will act as the client's site-based representative on underground cable works, overseeing civil construction activities to ensure safety, quality and alignment with design.

The role requires strong interpretive skills for drawings, the ability to report progress and risks, and the willingness to travel across Scotland to multiple project sites.

Qualifications

• Civil Engineering background with experience on major civil or infrastructure projects.
• Site-based engineering experience in construction, utilities, energy, highways, or water sectors.
• Knowledge of excavation, trenching, earthworks, duct installation, and backfilling.
• Ability to interpret construction drawings and identify deviations and quality concerns.
• Strong communication and reporting skills; capable of working remotely across sites.

Responsibilities

• Act as the client's site-based representative on underground cable transmission projects.
• Monitor civil construction activities to ensure safety and design compliance.
• Inspect trenching, duct installation, and earthworks; report findings.
• Supervise temporary access roads, work areas, plant compounds and lifting areas.
• Review crossings with road, rail, watercourse; ensure project requirements.
• Verify works against drawings, specs, and quality standards.
• Identify design changes, non-conformances and construction risks.
• Provide site updates to the Engineering Manager and escalate issues.
• Support quality assurance, progress monitoring and contractor performance.
• Travel regularly across Scotland project sites.
