Job summary

Contract Scotland is seeking an experienced Site Engineer to support a major transmission infrastructure project on the Orkney Islands. The role involves setting out, surveying, QA, and coordinating with the delivery team on a long-term civil engineering programme.

Working on a remote site with a typical rotation of 10 days on / 3-4 days off, with accommodation provided and flights arranged by the project. Strong onsite communication is essential for success.

Qualifications

  • Experience as Site Engineer in civil engineering or infrastructure projects.
  • Competent setting out and survey skills with modern surveying equipment.
  • Strong QA understanding and site documentation.
  • Experience coordinating with subcontractors and construction teams.
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills.

Responsibilities

  • Set out and survey works on site.
  • Maintain accurate site records and as-built information.
  • Manage quality assurance documentation and inspections.
  • Provide technical input to construction teams.
  • Monitor progress against programme requirements.
  • Ensure works follow design specifications.
  • Liaise with site management, subcontractors and client representatives.
  • Assist planning and coordination of daily site activities.

Site Engineer - Major Transmission Infrastructure Project

Location: Orkney Islands, Scotland
Rotation: Typically 10 days on / 3-4 days off (dependent on flight schedules)
Accommodation: Provided
Travel: Flights arranged and paid for by the project

We are currently recruiting for an experienced Site Engineer to support the delivery of a major transmission infrastructure project in the Orkney Islands. This is an excellent opportunity to join a long‑term, high‑profile project, working alongside an established delivery team on a significant programme of civil engineering and infrastructure works.

The Role

As Site Engineer, you will be responsible for supporting the safe and efficient delivery of works on site, ensuring engineering standards, quality requirements and project programme objectives are achieved.

Key responsibilities will include:
  • Setting out and surveying works
  • Maintaining accurate site records and as-built information
  • Managing quality assurance documentation and inspections
  • Supporting construction teams with technical engineering input
  • Monitoring progress against programme requirements
  • Ensuring works are carried out in accordance with design specifications
  • Liaising with site management, subcontractors and client representatives
  • Assisting with planning and coordination of daily site activities
Candidate Requirements
  • Previous experience working as a Site Engineer within civil engineering or infrastructure projects
  • Competent setting out and survey skills using modern surveying equipment
  • Strong understanding of quality assurance and site documentation
  • Experience working alongside subcontractors and construction teams
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills
  • Ability to work on a rotational basis in a remote project environment
