The Role

As a Site Engineer, you'll play a key role in the delivery of a major new highways project, working closely with the Section Engineer and Site Management team. You'll be responsible for setting out, surveying, and managing day-to-day engineering activities on site — ensuring accuracy, safety, and efficiency at every stage.

Key Responsibilities
  • Undertake accurate setting out and surveying duties for all site operations.
  • Review technical drawings, quantities, and specifications for accuracy and compliance.
  • Plan, coordinate, and schedule work to meet programme deadlines.
  • Supervise subcontractors and site labour, ensuring quality and productivity.
  • Liaise with consultants, designers, and the wider site team to resolve technical issues.
  • Maintain detailed site records and ensure compliance with Health, Safety, and Environmental procedures.
  • Carry out material testing and ensure surveying instruments are properly calibrated.
  • Identify opportunities for improvement and support continuous innovation on site.
  • Support the Site and Project Managers in the overall delivery of the project.
About You
Essential
  • Degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Project Management (or equivalent).
  • Proven experience working as a Site Engineer within civil engineering.
  • Strong setting out and surveying skills using modern equipment (GPS, Total Station, AutoCAD).
  • Excellent communication, organisation, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Valid CSCS card and Health & Safety training.
Desirable
  • Experience working on highways, infrastructure, or major civil engineering schemes.
  • First Aid at Work certification.
  • Commercial awareness and understanding of cost control.
  • Ability to mentor junior staff and take on leadership responsibility.
