Job summary

Ardour Associates Ltd. is recruiting a Site Engineer to join our client’s SBIM project, delivering bridge maintenance, repairs and improvement works on major infrastructure assets. Travel to project sites across the region is expected.

You will provide day‑to‑day engineering support to the site team, ensuring works follow drawings, specifications and programmes. You will work with site management, subcontractors and designers to resolve issues and maintain records throughout delivery.

Qualifications

  • Previous Site Engineer experience in civil engineering or construction.
  • Experience on bridge/structural projects (reinforced concrete, steelwork, refurbishments).
  • Setting out and surveying with total stations and digital levels.
  • Interpretation of drawings and technical specs.
  • Understanding of site QA, inspections and records.
  • Strong organisation, communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Proactive safety mindset and ability to work with site teams.
  • Civil engineering qualification or equivalent practical experience.
  • CSCS card and full UK driving licence.

Responsibilities

  • Undertake setting out, surveying and checks for structural works.
  • Interpret drawings and specs so site teams understand requirements.
  • Support planning and delivery of bridge maintenance and repairs.
  • Monitor workmanship and materials for quality compliance.
  • Complete inspection tests and maintain records.
  • Raise RFIs and liaise with designers to resolve issues.
  • Coordinate with subcontractors and operational teams for safe delivery.
  • Assist with risk assessments, method statements and briefings.
  • Maintain site diaries, progress records and as-built info.
  • Monitor progress and flag delays or risks.
  • Support site health, safety and environmental compliance.
  • Assist with handover documentation and close-out.

Site Engineer - Structures & Bridges

Location: Aust, Bristol - with travel across project sites

Project: SBIM - Severn Bridges Inspection and Maintenance

About the opportunity

Ardour Associates is recruiting a Site Engineer to join our client's team on the SBIM project, supporting the delivery of bridge maintenance, structural repairs and improvement works.

This is an opportunity to work on major infrastructure assets, contributing to the safe and successful delivery of technically varied engineering works.

Previous experience working on structures or bridges is essential. We welcome candidates with experience gained through construction, maintenance, refurbishment or structural repair projects.

The role

You will provide day-to-day engineering support to the site team, ensuring works are delivered in accordance with technical drawings, specifications, quality requirements and agreed programmes. Working closely with site management, subcontractors and designers, you will help resolve technical issues and maintain accurate records throughout delivery.

Key responsibilities
  • Undertake setting out, surveying and dimensional checks for structural and civil engineering works.
  • Interpret construction drawings and specifications, ensuring site teams understand the technical requirements.
  • Support the planning and delivery of bridge maintenance, refurbishment and structural repair activities.
  • Monitor workmanship and materials to ensure compliance with approved designs and quality standards.
  • Complete inspection and test plans, quality checks and supporting records.
  • Identify technical queries, raise requests for information and liaise with designers to resolve issues.
  • Coordinate with subcontractors and operational teams to support safe, efficient delivery.
  • Assist with risk assessments, method statements and task briefings.
  • Maintain site diaries, progress records, survey information and as-built documentation.
  • Monitor progress against the programme and flag potential delays or delivery risks.
  • Support compliance with site health, safety and environmental requirements.
  • Assist with handover documentation and the close-out of outstanding works.
Essential skills and experience
  • Previous experience as a Site Engineer within civil engineering or construction.
  • Practical experience on bridge or structural projects, such as reinforced concrete structures, structural steelwork, retaining structures, bridge repairs or refurbishment.
  • Competence in setting out and surveying using equipment such as total stations and digital levels.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications.
  • An understanding of site quality assurance, inspections and construction records.
  • Strong organisation, communication and problem-solving skills.
  • A proactive approach to safety and the ability to work effectively with site teams and subcontractors.
  • A relevant civil engineering or construction qualification, or equivalent practical experience.
  • An appropriate CSCS card and a full UK driving licence.
Desirable experience
  • Experience working on highway structures or within a live operational environment.
  • Exposure to concrete repairs, waterproofing, bridge joints, bearings or steelwork repairs.
  • Awareness of temporary works and access arrangements associated with structural maintenance.
  • Experience supporting works involving traffic management or restricted access.
  • SSSTS or SMSTS qualification.
