Job description

We are looking for a Site Engineer to join our Natural Resources team working on projects based across Kent, Sussex, and Hampshire for our seven‑year, £1 bn framework with Southern Water. As the Site Engineer you’ll support various projects on the Southern Water framework and help deliver the requirements of the individual project. Your input to construction projects will be technical, organisational and supervisory, setting out and determining the location for infrastructure installations both above and below ground, applying designs and plans to mark out the site, and sharing responsibility for site security, health and safety, and the organisation and supervision of material and human resources.

Day‑to‑Day Responsibilities
  • Act as the main technical adviser on a construction site for subcontractors, craftspeople and operatives, setting out, levelling and surveying the site.
  • Check plans, drawings and quantities for accuracy of calculations, ensuring that all materials used and work performed are in accordance with the specifications.
  • Agree a price for materials and propose cost‑effective solutions for the intended project.
  • Manage, monitor and interpret the contract documents supplied by the client or designer.
  • Liaise with consultants, subcontractors, supervisors, planners, quantity surveyors and the local authority (where appropriate) to ensure compliance with local construction regulations and by‑laws.
Key Skills and Experience
  • Experience within a civil engineering or construction environment and demonstrable experience in the water sector.
  • Consultative and collaborative behaviours with strong written and oral communication skills, able to liaise effectively with construction managers, quantity surveyors, subcontractors, architects, designers and other engineers.
  • Excellent organisational skills and a methodical approach to work.
  • Hold a full UK driving licence.
