A leading construction firm in the United Kingdom is seeking an experienced Agent to manage high-value construction works at a significant infrastructure site. This role demands strong leadership and excellent communication in coordinating subcontractor activities while ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards. Ideal candidates will possess considerable site experience and relevant qualifications in civil engineering.

Qualifications

  • Proven site experience at Senior Engineer (2+ years) or Agent level (5+ years).
  • Valid CSCS card required.
  • Experience or training in Behavioural Science / Safety is a plus.

Responsibilities

Job description

We have a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Agent to join a site-based delivery team in the South West of the UK in Devonport Royal Dockyard. For a key delivery partner on a highly complex and nationally significant infrastructure project.

This is a unique opportunity to provide Intelligent Oversight and be directly responsible for managing and overseeing high-value construction works at site level, ensuring the highest standards of Safety, Quality, and Compliance are met.

Key Responsibilities

The Agent will be responsible for a maximum of 6-8 core functions, focusing on delivery, coordination, and control:

  1. Leadership & Client Interface: Provide visible leadership in a client-facing capacity, personally demonstrating a positive safety and quality culture.

  2. Subcontractor Management: Coordinate all subcontractor activities, including chairing regular co-ordination meetings and ensuring site team compliance.

  3. H&S and Compliance: Ensure overall compliance with Health & Safety Legislation, Company Policy, and best practice, overseeing the implementation of Safe Systems of Work (SSoW), RAMS, and Permits for the control of works.

  4. Reporting & Communication: Provide clear and timely reports to Senior Leadership Teams and various functional teams (both direct and indirect).

  5. Risk Management: In liaison with the site teams, actively identify opportunities and risks, and maintain the Risk Register with relevant project functions.

  6. Technical Scrutiny & Documentation: Scrutinise drawings and technical documents, and raise relevant construction documentation such as TQs, RFIs, and NCRs.

  7. Programming & Scheduling: Scrutinise and undertake detailed scheduling / programming of site activities in conjunction with sub-contractors and the site team.

  8. Training & Development: Support the training, development, and education of subcontractors, site supervisors, and the wider workforce on site rules and procedures.

Knowledge, Skills, and Experience
Essential
  • Experience: Proven site experience at either Senior Engineer (2+ years) or Agent level (5+ years) on complex infrastructure or construction projects.

  • Technical Skills: Strong IT skills, including proficiency with MS Office.

Desirable
  • Digital: Experience with BIM/Digital tools (e.g., Autodesk, Bentley).

  • Programming: Scheduling experience using professional tools (e.g., Aphex, P6).

  • Safety Focus: Experience or training in Behavioural Science / Safety.

Qualifications
Essential
  • Education: Degree level, HNC, or HND qualification in Civil Engineering (or equivalent vocational experience in Construction/Engineering).

  • Certification: Holds a valid CSCS card.
