Interview Date: 20th October 2026
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and motivated Band 6 Research Nurse to join the Research & Development team at Barnsley Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. This role will support the continued growth of our research portfolio across the hospital and high street locations, helping to expand access to high-quality clinical research for our local population.
Working as part of a supportive multidisciplinary team, you will contribute to the delivery of a diverse portfolio of commercial and non-commercial studies, embedding research within clinical services and supporting the Trusts ambition to increase research activity and participation. You will work closely with clinical teams, the Lead Nurse for Research & Development and the wider R&D service to help identify, set up, and deliver studies in line with NIHR targets and Good Clinical Practice.
This is an excellent development opportunity for a registered nurse with a passion for research, innovation and service improvement, offering exposure to research delivery across acute and community settings. We are committed to supporting your professional development through training, mentorship and ongoing support within a growing and forward-thinking research service.
As a Band 6 Research Nurse, you will be responsible for the safe and effective delivery of a portfolio of clinical research studies from set-up through to close-down, ensuring all activity is conducted in accordance with study protocols, Good Clinical Practice (GCP), Trust policies and regulatory requirements. You will independently screen, recruit, consent and support participants throughout their research journey, maintaining accurate and high-quality documentation at all times.
You will coordinate and deliver research visits, collect and process samples where required, and ensure adverse events are identified, documented and escalated appropriately to protect participant safety. Working collaboratively with clinical teams, you will support the integration of research into routine practice, helping to grow research activity across the hospital and Health on the High Street setting.
The role includes providing advice and guidance to staff involved in research, contributing to education and training, and acting as a visible advocate for research within the organisation. You will support governance processes, monitoring and audit activity, and contribute to service development and quality improvement initiatives, playing a key role in strengthening the Trusts research culture and delivery.
