About the Role:

We are recruiting either single-skilled or multi-skilled Engineers, with either an electrical or mechanical bias.

If you are currently single-skilled, we will fully fund additional training to support you in becoming multi-skilled, with all development paid for by Avara Foods. This is a great opportunity to grow your career while gaining new engineering skills.

  • Week 1 - Mon, Tues, Weds, Thurs & Fri (05:30-13:30)
  • Week 2 - Mon, Tues, Weds, Thurs & Fri (05:30-13:30)
  • Week 3 - Mon, Tues, Weds, Thurs & Fri (10:00-18:00)
  • Week 4 - Sun (05:30-17:30) Mon, Tues, Weds, Thurs & Fri (10:00-18:00) Sat (05:30-13:30)
  • Week 5 - Mon, Tues, Weds, Thurs & Fri (05:30-13:30)
  • Week 6 - Mon, Tues, Weds, Thurs & Fri (10:00-18:00

This averages to 44.57 hours per week

There is a call-out rota in operation where you will carry out a response service for 1 week in a 7 week rotation. This is a 24hr call out service to cover two of the operations' Hatchery sites. You would be the first point of call if the person on site needs engineering assistance.

Purpose of the role:

As a Single / Multi Skilled Engineer operating from a well-established Hatchery, you will optimise machinery output and product quality and minimise plant downtime through effective preventative maintenance and efficient response whilst maintaining a safe and healthy environment and promoting good engineering practices.

A fast-paced, dynamic Hatchery environment which can be noisy and dusty in some areas, incubating eggs into chicks, where hygiene standards are critical. The role is predominantly factory based.

Your key responsibilities will include:
  • Carry out Planned Preventative Maintenance and Breakdown/Reactive Maintenance of Plant, Equipment and incubators.
  • Ensure the Engineering maintenance carried out in line with the current schedule and effective and efficient corrective action is taken.
  • Quick and effective response to breakdowns, where possible identifying root cause and suggesting possible improvements to prevent further breakdowns occurring.
  • Communicate unscheduled breakdowns to Management and work with the process departments to minimise plant disruption.
  • Record and identify spare parts that have been used through MS and to Engineering Team Leader.
  • Follow good engineering standards and good hygiene practice for the department across the whole site.
  • Ensure Maintenance and Engineering practices are audit complaint.
  • Ensure all activities are carried out within company and legislative health and safety and environmental guidelines reporting any issues.
  • Ensure compliance through regular process weigher and Liquid meter calibrations (weights and measures Act)
  • Proficient in engineering operations whilst working in hazardous environments (Hot working, WAH)
  • Participate in Mechanical projects and installations – Conveyors, machine installs, machine refurbishments.
  • Participate in Electrical projects and installations.
  • Efficient operations of effluent plant systems ensuring environmental compliance.
  • Understand the operations of fire suppression systems – Fire Trace, Sprinkler system, Hydrant system.
  • Demonstrate understanding of environmental impacts.
What we are looking for:
  • Time served Multi-skilled Apprenticeship in a relevant engineering discipline
  • Proactive and dynamic approach to safety
  • Good diagnostic and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work under pressure whilst having a high attention to detail
  • Flexibility with a positive attitude and the ability to work well within a very small team.
  • Food manufacture experience desirable
  • IEE 17th or 18th Edition desirable
  • Pneumatic experience desirable
