Job summary

Skyborne Airline Academy in Gloucester is seeking a Simulator Technician to maintain Flight Simulation Training Devices, diagnose faults and support upgrades. You will work with the FSTD Manager and Operations teams to maximise device availability while ensuring UK CAA and EASA regulatory compliance.

You will troubleshoot hardware, software and electrical faults, perform calibrations and contribute to audits. A proactive, adaptable candidate with strong communication skills is essential.

Qualifications

  • Experience maintaining complex electro-mechanical or computer-based systems.
  • Desirable: previous experience maintaining flight simulators.
  • Desirable: aviation engineering or aerospace background.
  • Desirable: knowledge of UK CAA CS-FSTD(A) requirements.
  • Desirable: familiarity with ALSIM, GTS-Diamond, MPS or AviatIFYSIM simulators.
  • Understanding of networking, virtual machines and server infrastructure.
  • Strong fault-finding and diagnostic skills.
  • Good understanding of Windows operating systems and PC hardware.
  • Knowledge of networking fundamentals.
  • Excellent communication skills and a methodical approach.
  • Ability to work independently and within a team; flexible hours.
  • Full UK driving licence.

Responsibilities

  • Carry out scheduled preventative maintenance on all Flight Simulation Training Devices.
  • Diagnose, troubleshoot and rectify hardware, software and electrical faults.
  • Support planned and unplanned maintenance activities to maximise simulator availability.
  • Maintain simulator configuration in accordance with approved baselines.
  • Perform routine calibration, functional testing and performance verification.
  • Support initial qualification, recurrent evaluations and regulatory audits.
  • Assist with the execution of MQTG and QTG testing following maintenance or software updates.
  • Liaise with simulator manufacturers regarding technical support, upgrades and warranty issues.
  • Maintain accurate technical records, maintenance logs and defect reporting.
  • Ensure all maintenance activities are completed in accordance with company procedures and manufacturer documentation.
  • Monitor simulator performance trends and recommend reliability improvements.
  • Support new simulator installations, upgrades and relocation projects.
  • Maintain workshop tooling, test equipment and simulator spares inventory.
  • Ensure Health & Safety requirements are maintained within all simulator facilities.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives within Fleet Support and the FSTD department.
  • Support company-wide IT inventory and in house tech support.

Skyborne Airline Academy are recruiting for a Simulator Technician to join the team at Gloucester. You will be responsible for ensuring all Flight Simulation Training Devices (FSTDs) are maintained in a safe, serviceable and compliant condition, maximising device availability to support the delivery of high-quality pilot training.

This role involves preventative and corrective maintenance, fault diagnosis, software and hardware support, configuration management and liaison with simulator manufacturers. The Simulator Technician will work closely with the FSTD Manager and Operations teams to minimise downtime while maintaining compliance with UK CAA and EASA FSTD regulatory requirements.

This is a dynamic and progressive role requiring a proactive, adaptable individual who is committed to maintaining the highest standards of technical reliability, safety and customer service.
