Job summary

BAE Systems on RAF Leeming requires a Simulator Technician to join a small on-base team maintaining Hawk training devices and subsystems for Joint Squadron aircrew training.

You will set up and service Full Mission Simulator, Avionic Part Task Trainer and Desk Top Training Devices, ensuring maximum availability; work with QFIs, report faults, manage spares, and follow safety and risk procedures. On-site role with shift allowances and pension benefits.

Qualifications

  • Background in avionic simulation systems or IT with device maintenance experience.
  • Engineering background from military aviation preferred (avionics, electrical, IT).
  • Comply with risk assessments, SHE policies, and procedures.
  • IT literate; ITAR awareness.

Responsibilities

  • Liaise with QFI’s regarding device availability, maintenance and fault resolution.
  • Prepare Pilot training devices for customer use and assist with mission-specific preparations.
  • Undertake scheduled and unscheduled maintenance to maximise device availability.
  • Diagnose faults and perform remedial maintenance to maximise device availability.
  • Raise Fault Reports and queries, identifying items requiring repair or replacement.
  • Record spares consumption and follow the spares replenishment process.
  • Follow tool control processes as described in relevant documentation.
  • Learn from the L3 Field Service Rep to support devices when FSR returns to industry.

Job description

The Simulator Technician will be working as part of a small, on-base team at RAF Leeming performing set up activities and essential maintenance to maximize the availability of the Hawk training devices, in support of Joint Squadron aircrew training. They will undertake maintenance on the Full Mission Simulator, Avionic Part Task Trainer and Desk Top Training Devices, along with their associated sub systems.

Core Activity
  • Liaise with the QFI’s regarding device availability, scheduled maintenance and unscheduled fault resolution.
  • On a daily basis, prepare the Pilot training devices for Customer use and assist with mission specific preparations.
  • Undertake scheduled & unscheduled maintenance to maximize device availability, recording all maintenance activities performed.
  • Perform maintenance in a safe manner in accordance with the documented maintenance & risk procedures.
  • Diagnose faults and perform remedial maintenance (i.e. remove and replace unserviceable parts) in the most time efficient way possible, maximizing device availability.
  • Raise Fault Reports & queries, identifying items requiring repair or replacement.
  • Record spares consumption for each training device.
  • Follow the spares replenishment process is followed in accordance with the relevant BAE Systems procurement processes.
  • Follow the tool control process as described within the relevant Part 145 Acceptable Means of Compliance documentation.
  • Draw on the experience and knowledge of the L3 Field Service Rep (FSR) and apply that learning to ongoing support of the devices when the FSR returns to industry.
Key Accountabilities
  • Follow safe working procedures.
  • Perform maintenance in a safe manner.
  • Understand the hazards and follow the mitigation.
  • Understand and follow the risk assessments.
  • Be responsible for their own personal safety, maintaining their safety training currency.
  • Be familiar with and adhere to the contents of the relevant CONOPS documentation & Maintenance Safety Management Plan.
  • Ensure that the devices are ‘safe to use’ when handed over for Customer use.
  • Report all accidents, incidents and near-miss events in accordance with the Maintenance organisations safety management processes & procedures.
  • Assist in the control of visiting Contractors.
Requirements
  • The candidate will ideally have a background in Avionic simulation systems, or have an experienced Information Technology background. Note that device specific local training will be provided.
  • Alternatively, the candidate may have a background in military aviation as a technician from an Engineering discipline, preferably Avionics, Electrical or IT including an Engineering Apprenticeship qualification (NVQ level 3) or City & Guilds 2675 or 2661 in Aeronautical Engineering and Maintenance or equivalent.
  • Ensure personal compliance with the risk assessments, SHE policies and procedures.
  • Human Factors- Standard Course Specification.
  • E&PW Awareness- Standard Course Specification.
  • ITAR Awareness- Standard Course Specification.
  • IT Literate.
