Cortirio Limited, based in London, is seeking a hands-on Signal Processing Research Engineer to help develop algorithms and embedded code for a wearable brain-imaging headset. The role focuses on modelling, measurement, and real-time data processing across interdisciplinary teams.
You will work in a small cross-functional team with engineers, doctors and scientists, using Python for data analysis and C/C++ for embedded software, while supporting hardware data acquisition and tools for data

Cortirio’s mission is to save lives by developing low-cost, portable brain imaging.
Globally, stroke is the leading cause of life-long disability and head injuries are the most common cause of death in the under 40s. There is currently no way to definitively diagnose stroke or head injuries at the point of care and we are changing that through the use of our accessible, head worn device.
Our technology uses infrared light to image blood at high resolution and automatically detects abnormalities in the brain. This allows the device to be used anywhere from surgery to ambulances, from A&E to intensive care monitoring
This is a hands-on role, working on R&D projects within a small cross-functional team of engineers, doctors and scientists. You will have demonstrable experience modelling and measuring signal processing chains (algorithms, filters and detectors) in python and also be comfortable developing C/C++ embedded code for data acquisition. In addition, electronics measurement, analysis and debugging for mixed signal systems is required.
The role is to develop new algorithms from first principles, starting with data collection and analysis to discovering new insights. Then going on to validate an algorithm's effectiveness and performance.
The majority of the development will be helping compensate for real world noise and variability. This includes hardware noise such as amplifier gains, offsets, timing jitter, dark noise, temperature drift, as well as human variation such as, hair type, hair colour, skin colour, mechanical pressure, positioning etc. A strong understanding of noise sources and compensation techniques is critical.
In addition to algorithm design work, you’ll work alongside the hardware team helping them to analyse data from electronics, and optomechanical sub-systems. You’ll also help with supporting development of pre-existing software tools for realtime data collection, data visualisation and data processing pipelines.
This project offers the chance to have a big impact on a global problem whilst developing cutting edge technology. You will have a significant role in shaping the development of our novel headset. We support cross functional working and encourage you to get an overview of all areas of the product.
Given the hardware focussed nature of our work, we mostly work from our office in London Bridge but we’ll be flexible where possible. We offer meaningful share options, flexible working arrangements and 33 days annual leave. Work life balance is important to us and we are dedicated to building a fantastic place to work.
If you want to have the autonomy to have a big impact on the product, the company and the world, we’d love to hear from you!
