Job summary

Polypipe Civils and Green Urbanisation, part of the Genuit Group, seeks a Shift Technician to prepare, operate and maintain equipment safely, support tool changes, and ensure quality. The role focuses on keeping production lines optimised and compliant with safety and process standards.

You will work a rotating shift pattern 2 days (07:00-19:00) followed by 2 nights (19:00-07:00) then 4 days off, and you will train colleagues to build capability across production teams while embracing lean

Qualifications

  • Experience working in a manufacturing environment.
  • Proven ability to train others and develop teams.
  • Proficient with MS Office and record-keeping.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare equipment and ensure machinery is available for planned tool changes, in line with the daily production plan.
  • Coordinate labour and resources with Production Team Leaders and technical teams for tool changes.
  • Inspect product quality during machine start-up and identify, investigate, and resolve production issues.
  • Carry out root cause analysis and communicate corrective actions for continuous improvement.
  • Deliver training on processes and procedures to develop production teams.
  • Support and lead tool changes, machine start-ups and shutdowns with accurate documentation.
  • Maintain safe working practices, conduct risk assessments, and ensure correct PPE usage.
  • Monitor equipment performance, diagnose faults, and raise issues via the job card system.
  • Apply lean manufacturing methods (5S, Kanban, TPM, SMED) to drive improvements.
  • Support daily production performance and run lines to target speeds, recording data and supporting improvement initiatives.

Role Overview

The Shift Technician will have in depth knowledge to prepare, operate, and maintain equipment and machinery safely and facilitate training. They will perform planned routine tool changes, maintain and repair tooling to keep production lines optimised and in good working order. They will support and facilitate the start up, shutdown of machines as well as problem solving, ensuring correct materials are utilised and perform quality control evaluations to confirm finished goods meet quality standards. They will share their experience and knowledge to train and develop our people to the required business documents. They will embrace and champion the trademark behaviours.

You will work a shift pattern consisting of 2 days (07:00-19:00) followed by 2 nights (19:00-07:00) then 4 days off.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare equipment and ensure all machinery is available for planned tool changes, completing them efficiently and in line with the daily production plan.
  • Liaise with Production Team Leaders and technical teams to coordinate labour and resources required for tool changes.
  • Inspect product quality during machine start-up and identify, investigate, and resolve production issues.
  • Carry out root cause analysis and communicate corrective actions to support continuous improvement.
  • Deliver training on relevant processes and procedures, supporting the development of production teams.
  • Support and lead tool changes, machine start-ups and shutdowns, ensuring all documentation is completed accurately.
  • Maintain safe working practices, conduct risk assessments, encourage hazard reporting, and ensure correct PPE usage.
  • Monitor equipment performance, assess breakdowns, and either rectify faults or raise them through the job card system.
  • Use lean manufacturing tools and techniques, including 5S, Kanban, TPM and SMED, to drive operational improvements.
  • Support daily production performance, including running lines to target speeds, recording data, and assisting with improvement initiatives and trials.
Skills And Experience
  • Previous experience working in a manufacturing environment.
  • Previous experience as a trainer.
  • Computer literate, including Microsoft Office packages.
  • Technically minded.
  • Understands business processes.
  • Able to accurately complete paperwork.
  • Organised and able to manage own workload effectively.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to identify and resolve problems.
  • Willing and able to work shifts.
