Job summary

Lubrizol seeks an experienced Shift Process Operator for our Huddersfield site. You will operate manufacturing plant equipment to produce additives for coatings, ensuring safety, quality, and process efficiency in a COMAH-regulated environment.

The role involves handling raw materials, coordinating with maintenance, and supporting continuous improvement while keeping detailed records and maintaining housekeeping standards.

Qualifications

• City & Guilds PPO or NVQ2 or equivalent qualification.
• Accredited multi-skilled apprenticeship.
• Nationally recognised trade apprenticeship with relevant industrial experience.

Responsibilities

• Safely operate plant equipment to produce products to spec and production requirements.
• Prepare and charge raw materials, maintaining quality and safety standards.
• Receive and offload bulk deliveries, ensure proper storage and labelling.
• Package and discharge finished products, ensuring product integrity.
• Support preventative maintenance, calibration, and basic maintenance tasks.
• Troubleshoot production issues and maintain plant performance and schedules.
• Maintain production records, stock, and audit documentation.
• Contribute to continuous improvement and 5S housekeeping.

Are you an experienced manufacturing or process operator looking for your next challenge? At our Huddersfield manufacturing site, you’ll play a vital role in producing specialist additives used in coatings and industrial applications around the world.

Working within a COMAH-regulated chemical manufacturing environment, you’ll operate plant equipment, maintain high safety and quality standards, and help deliver products that support industries including paints, coatings, plastics, printing inks, wood finishes, and metal coatings.

How You’ll Make An Impact

• Safely operate manufacturing plant equipment to produce products to specification and production requirements
• Prepare and charge raw materials into manufacturing processes while maintaining strict quality and safety standards
• Receive and offload bulk tank deliveries and ensure materials are correctly identified and stored
• Package and discharge finished products into a variety of customer packaging formats, ensuring accurate labelling and product integrity
• Support preventative maintenance activities, alarm and trip testing, instrument calibration, and basic multi-skilled maintenance tasks
• Troubleshoot production issues and work collaboratively to maintain plant performance and meet production schedules
• Maintain accurate production documentation, stock records, audit documentation, and operating logs
• Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and maintain high workplace housekeeping standards through 5S practices
• Provide operational flexibility by supporting multiple production areas as required
• Assist with onboarding and training new employees on safe operating procedures and plant requirements

Required Qualifications That Enable Your Success

• City & Guilds Process Plant Operations (PPO), NVQ Level 2, or equivalent qualification
• Accredited multi-skilled apprenticeship
• Nationally recognised trade apprenticeship supported by relevant industrial experience

In Addition, Successful Candidates Will Demonstrate

• Experience within a chemical, biological, manufacturing, or process industry environment
• Knowledge of automated manufacturing systems such as Distributed Control Systems (DCS)
• Strong commitment to health, safety, environmental, and quality standards
• Ability to interpret plant data and identify appropriate corrective actions
• Good computer skills, including experience with SAP and Microsoft Office applications
• Strong problem-solving and prioritisation skills
• High attention to detail and record‑keeping accuracy
• Ability to work effectively within a collaborative team environment
• Physical capability to undertake manual handling, charging, maintenance, and operational activities
• Forklift truck experience is advantageous

Your Work Environment

Located in West Yorkshire, the Huddersfield site employs fewer than 50 people and specialises in manufacturing additives for Lubrizol Performance Coatings.

The facility operates to ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 standards and manufactures a range of aqueous and solvent-based resins, polymers, dispersants, and adhesion promoters. Products manufactured at the site are sold globally and are essential ingredients in coatings, printing inks, plastics, wood finishing, and metal coating applications.

As part of our operations team, you’ll work in a manufacturing environment where appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) is provided and rigorous safety standards are maintained. The role requires a hands‑on approach and offers opportunities to develop technical skills while contributing to site performance and continuous improvement.
