Job summary

Equans UK & Ireland is recruiting a Shift Mechanical Engineer for Midland Metropolitan University Hospital (MMUH) in Smethwick. The role is full-time, 40.25 hours per week, following a shift rota: 2 days 7am-7pm, 2 nights 7pm-7am, then 4 days off.

A competitive salary plus a shift allowance and benefits are offered. Key responsibilities include maintaining ventilation, pumps, boilers, and medical gas systems, managing reactive faults, and carrying out PPMs with compliance to standards and safety

Qualifications

• City & Guilds/NVQ levels 2 and 3 required; recognised engineering apprenticeship.
• Experience in maintenance environments, preferably healthcare maintenance.
• Competent/Authorised Person experience in ventilation/pressure systems desirable.

Responsibilities

• Work on ventilation, pumps, compressors, boilers, medical gases, heating and water systems across MMUH site.
• Respond to reactive jobs with diagnostic, fault finding and repair of complex mechanical systems.
• Handle BMS alerts during night shifts and allocate tasks to the team, ensuring proper handover to Helpdesk.
• Obtain Competent Person status for specialist ventilation and medical gas installations after training.
• Carry out Planned Preventative Maintenance across the site per the programme and qualifications.

Education

City & Guilds/NVQ levels 2 and 3

Recognised apprenticeship in relevant engineering discipline

Maintenance experience

Competent Person/Authorised Person experience (ventilation/pressure systems)

Healthcare maintenance experience (desirable)
