Job description

The Shift Manager is responsible for ensuring the effective working of their team over the course of a shift, achieving KPIs, ensuring all Health and safety and compliance measures are met, and ensuring the warehouse is operating at maximum efficiency.

The Shift Manager continuously reviews ways of working, identify improvements, and implement these within the team. They are responsible for delegating tasks to their colleagues, setting targets and goals to keep their team on track, and reviewing performance to ensure growth.

About The Role
Core Responsibilities
  • Supervise all operational aspects of a specific area/shift of the warehouse operation so that they are carried out safely, cost-effectively, efficiently, and with a high emphasis on customer service.
  • Supervise a specific area/shift of the warehouse operation on a day-to-day basis, ensuring all work and administration are completed within agreed‑upon deadlines.
  • Ensure all processes are followed to achieve stock accuracy and operational efficiency.
  • Respond promptly to all queries/requests for the warehouse operation and ensure that actions are followed.
  • Complete daily administration tasks according to the required standards and timelines.
  • Promote a safety‑first culture within the area of responsibility, undertake regular checks and audits, and complete any remedial actions as required.
  • Follow all health and safety processes.
  • Ensure standards of cleanliness meet the necessary requirements and are in line with health and safety.
  • To guide and train the operational team through the company's operational SOPs.
  • Frequently carry out spot checks on operational activities and targets.
  • Monitor and record checks of mechanical handling equipment in line with the organisation's procedures.
  • Carry out regular briefings with your team and ensure any feedback they give is shared with the Shift Operations Manager on the relevant shift or the relevant departmental contact.
  • Organise for all day shift warehouse team members to receive appropriate training and development to ensure they can deliver in their role.
  • In conjunction with the Shift Operations Manager, ensure sufficient skilled resources and equipment are in place to always meet the business's needs.
  • Proactively identify any areas of non‑conformance or opportunities for improvement within your area of responsibility and plan and complete actions to achieve these improvements.
  • Support any tasks and projects as required to ensure the good running of the warehouse.
  • Ensure that all returns are processed in a timely manner.
  • To assist and support the supervision of the recycling department.
  • To support when required in the absence of the Shift Operations Manager.
  • Support fellow Shift Manager with all day‑to‑day tasks as necessary and assist other team members as required.
  • To action any other elements to fulfil the operational needs of the business.
Qualifications
  • Experience in managing or working in a warehouse or distribution environment is essential.
  • Good people management skills with the ability to manage and motivate others.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • IT literate with knowledge of WMS systems.
  • Ability to report on operational performance information.
  • Focussed on always delivering excellent service to all customers.
  • Able to cope with change and manage own workload and priorities.
  • Able to deliver results and meet deadlines.
  • Knowledge of relevant Transport legislation, H&S, HR legislation and good practice.
  • Possession of the following is essential: FLT Counterbalance Licence.
  • Possession of the following desirable: Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC).

Working Hours

This is a full-time role working 40 hours per week, 5 out of 7 days, working a 10am till 6.30pm Monday to Friday (no weekends)
