Join Our Operations Team at The Compleat Food Group! We’re excited to offer an incredible opportunity for a Shift Manager to join our dedicated and professional team in Nottingham.

The purpose of this role is to support the Factory Manager in delivering the efficient, safe, and effective operation of high-speed production processes.

Role Details

Working Hours: Sunday - Tuesday/Wednesday 06:00 - 18:00

Role Type: Permanent, Full Time Role

Location: Riverside Bakery, Nottingham

Salary: Up to £45,000

Your Duties Will Include
Health, Safety & Environment
  • Ensure a safe working environment with zero recordable injuries, in full compliance with company policies and legislation.
  • Lead safety and environmental incident investigations, implementing effective corrective actions.
  • Drive safety engagement through near misses, safety observations, and timely action closure.
Production & Performance
  • Deliver the production plan on time, to quality standards, and within labour targets.
  • Monitor and improve OEE, implementing and tracking improvement plans.
  • Maintain efficient, continuous production through strong shop‑floor presence and proactive management.
  • Ensure accurate completion of production runs and effective shift handovers.
  • Act as cover for the Production Manager when required.
Quality & GMP
  • Monitor product quality, addressing non‑conformances and reporting issues promptly.
  • Maintain GMP standards and ensure corrective actions are completed and tracked.
  • Lead quality incident investigations and support NPD trials and sample runs.
People Management & Capability
  • Manage, coach, and develop direct reports, ensuring training records, skill matrices, and succession plans are maintained.
  • Ensure correct manning levels, rota accuracy, holiday cover, and effective absence management.
  • Handle performance, conduct, grievance, appraisal, and probationary reviews in line with company policy and legal requirements.
  • Build a skilled, engaged workforce aligned to performance targets.
Materials, Communication & Continuous Improvement
  • Ensure material availability to prevent downtime.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives, particularly within high‑speed line operations.
  • Lead regular team briefings covering KPIs, OEE, waste, labour, and quality.
  • Support monthly reporting, cross‑functional communication, and relevant operational meetings.
  • Proactively implement operational changes to meet evolving business needs.
About You
  • Level 3 Food Safety and Hygiene
  • Essential Hygiene and Chemical Awareness
  • Level 2 HACCP
  • Experience of working in a similar role in a food manufacturing environment
  • Previous people management experience (Supervisory role)
  • Strong knowledge of H&S, Food Safety, BRC standards and PPE requirements
  • Strong communication skills and ability to give clear & detailed instructions
  • Leading and managing large operational teams
  • Ability to manage change within a diverse environment
  • Excellent interpersonal, influencing, coaching and negotiating skills
  • Continuous improvement and quality is a core value
  • Ability to effectively build and manage relationships as well as motivate staff
