Job summary

Nestlé Halifax, located in West Yorkshire, seeks a Shift Manager to lead a large operational shift and align safety, quality, engineering, maintenance and production priorities with the factory strategy.

You will drive safe, reliable and efficient manufacturing performance while developing people and routines that support continuous improvement across the line.

Qualifications

  • Experience in FMCG manufacturing with leadership responsibility.
  • Experience of managing and coordinating a large operational shift.
  • Ability to coach others and support skill transfer.
  • Proven track record of delivering improvement activities in manufacturing.
  • Ability to prioritise and make decisions in a fast-paced environment.
  • Understanding of safety, quality and labour requirements in manufacturing.
  • Proficient with workplace systems and standard software applications.

Responsibilities

  • Safety and quality: Maintain a safe working environment and manage risks.
  • Shift performance: Lead the shift against factory priorities with clear reviews and coordination.
  • Continuous improvement: Apply TPM principles to reduce losses and implement improvements.
  • People capability: Coach colleagues and transfer skills for better ownership of performance.
  • Operational reliability: Coordinate with Engineering and support functions to resolve stops and plan maintenance.
  • Team culture: Foster an inclusive environment encouraging involvement and continuous improvement.

The site combines controlled process manufacturing with advanced automated filling and packing technology to produce high-quality products safely, efficiently and at scale, while continuously improving performance and capability across its operations.

As Shift Manager, you will lead a large operational shift and create the conditions for colleagues to perform at their best. You will connect safety, quality, engineering, maintenance and production priorities to deliver the factory strategy.

Your Impact

You will help the Halifax factory deliver safe, reliable and efficient manufacturing performance while developing the people and routines that support continuous improvement.

  • Safety and quality: Maintain a safe working environment, identify and manage operational risks, and ensure activities meet applicable safety and quality standards.
  • Shift performance: Lead the shift against factory priorities, using clear operational reviews and effective coordination to maintain focus and accountability.
  • Continuous improvement: Apply Total Productive Maintenance principles to reduce losses, solve manufacturing challenges and embed sustainable improvements.
  • People capability: Coach colleagues, transfer skills and share effective practices so the line team can take greater ownership of performance.
  • Operational reliability: Work with Engineering and support functions to resolve unplanned stops, complete planned maintenance activities and implement necessary changes.
  • Team culture: Create an inclusive working environment that encourages involvement, collaboration and continuous improvement.
Your Ingredients for Success
Essential
  • Manufacturing experience: Experience of working in an FMCG manufacturing environment, with leadership responsibility in a production setting.
  • Shift leadership: Experience of managing and coordinating a large operational shift.
  • Coaching capability: Ability to coach others and support the development and transfer of skills.
  • Continuous improvement: Evidence of delivering improvement activity and solving manufacturing challenges.
  • Operational judgement: Ability to organise priorities and make effective decisions in a fast-paced production environment.
  • Safety and compliance: Understanding of safety, engineering, quality and labour requirements relevant to manufacturing operations.
  • Digital capability: Confidence using workplace systems and standard computer applications at an intermediate level.
Desirable
  • Sector exposure: Experience within food or drink manufacturing.
  • Improvement methods: Exposure to Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma or the implementation of Total Productive Maintenance.
  • Systems knowledge: Knowledge of SAP.
  • Technical problem-solving: Ability to identify manufacturing problems from a technical perspective.
  • Education: Degree-level education or an equivalent combination of learning and practical experience.
