Role Summary

The Shift Lead is a hybrid leadership role that combines operational oversight on the warehouse floor with administrative coordination to ensure smooth and efficient shift performance. This role is responsible for managing daily workloads, leading warehouse assistants, and ensuring orders are processed accurately, packed correctly, and dispatched on time. Additionally, the Shift Lead handles key admin tasks such as printing labels, managing dispatch paperwork, and supporting fulfilment visibility. They act as the first point of escalation during live shifts and are essential to maintaining high standards of output, accuracy, and safety.

Responsibilities
  • Shift Management & Team Leadership: Lead start‑of‑shift briefings and assign daily tasks to Warehouse Assistants; monitor fulfilment progress and adapt team distribution as priorities change; act as a floor leader by actively supporting picking, packing, and boxing during peak periods or bottlenecks; provide on‑the‑job training and support to new team members.
  • Order Admin & Paperwork: Print and organise labels, invoices, and packing/batch sheets for all live orders; ensure all paperwork is matched correctly with physical orders before dispatch; maintain accurate records of printed materials for tracking and compliance purposes.
  • Order Accuracy & Quality Control: Conduct spot checks on picked and packed orders for quality, accuracy, and presentation; flag recurring issues, discrepancies, or errors and support immediate resolution; ensure correct application of labels and campaign‑specific instructions.
  • Workflow Coordination: Prioritise workload according to dispatch schedules, fulfilment SLAs, or campaign timelines; assist with packaging prep, material setup, and space organisation to keep flow smooth and efficient; help monitor live campaign/order dashboards or checklists and keep teams updated on progress.
  • Communication & Escalation: Report shift performance and any blockers to the Department Co‑ordinator during or after shift; liaise with SLT Customer Experience if issues arise with labels, stock, or orders; notify relevant teams of delays, missing items, or urgent support needs in real time.
  • Health, Safety & Cleanliness: Ensure all team members follow safety protocols, especially around lifting and machinery; keep packing areas clean, orderly, and hazard‑free throughout and at the end of each shift; participate in regular safety checks and help enforce compliance standards.
Ideal Skills & Attributes
  • Strong organisational and communication skills
  • Detail‑oriented with a commitment to accuracy
  • Comfortable with fast‑paced, hands‑on warehouse environments
  • Basic computer skills (Excel, printing software, WMS/ERP)
  • Able to lead a team while actively participating in daily work
  • Problem‑solving mindset with a proactive approach to bottlenecks
  • KPIs are reviewed quarterly to ensure effectiveness for the business at that time.
