Job summary

The Compleat Food Group in Poole, Dorset is seeking an Engineering Shift Technician to maintain and optimise production lines, ensuring peak performance and food-safety compliance. You will work 2-week shift patterns (days then nights), perform planned and reactive maintenance, diagnose breakdowns, and drive improvements while adhering to GMP standards.

CMMS is used for detailed record-keeping and handovers.

Qualifications

• Proven experience in a production/manufacturing environment.
• Level 3 Engineering qualification (NVQ/BTEC/City & Guilds).
• Knowledge of Health and Safety legislation.
• Experience using CMMS in an engineering role.
• Experience in food/FMCG production environments.
• HNC/HND or degree in Engineering.
• IOSH/HAACP/NEBOSH or Food Safety qualifications.

Responsibilities

• Perform planned, preventive and reactive maintenance to keep production lines optimal.
• Diagnose and resolve breakdowns quickly to minimise downtime.
• Maintain safety and quality in line with GMP and hygienic engineering standards.
• Support sustainability and efficiency through process improvements.
• Ensure systems stay compliant, audit-ready and aligned with standards.
• Document all maintenance activities in CMMS and communicate during handovers.
• Engage in continuous improvement and root cause analysis to boost reliability.

About the Role:

• Perform planned, preventative, and reactive maintenance to ensure optimal line performance.
• Diagnose and resolve breakdowns efficiently to minimize downtime.
• Maintain product safety and quality by adhering to GMP and hygienic engineering standards.
• Promote sustainability and efficiency through responsible resource use and process improvements.
• Ensure systems remain compliant, audit-ready, and aligned with regulatory and industry standards.
• Accurately document all maintenance activities in the CMMS and communicate effectively during shift handovers.
• Participate in continuous improvement initiatives and root cause analysis to enhance reliability and performance.

About You:

• Proven experience working in a production and/or manufacturing environment
• Minimum Level 3 Qualification in Engineering (NVQ, BTEC, City and Guilds, etc.)
• Knowledge and understand of Health and Safety Legislation
• Experience using CMMS systems in an engineering role
• Previous experience specifically in a food or FMCG production environment
• HNC, HND, or Degree Level Qualification in Engineering
• IOSH, HAACP, NEBOSH or Food Safety Qualifications
